CalPERS and GI Partners launch US$500 million fund to buy technology advantaged core real estate

The California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) has announced the launch of TechCore, LLC, a US$500 million core real estate fund established with its real estate partner GI Partners to invest in technology advantaged properties in the United States. The new fund, led by the Menlo Park, California-based GI Partners, will purchase data centres, internet gateways, corporate campuses for technology tenants, and life science properties located in core metropolitan cities throughout the nation and leased to industry leading tenants.

CyrusOne breaks ground on ‘Massively Modular’ Phoenix facility

CyrusOne, a preeminent enterprise data centre colocation solutions provider, has broken ground on the 57-acre parcel of land it purchased in Chandler, Arizona, last fall. The site will house a 1-million-square-foot Massively Modular data centre expected to deliver scale, power, efficiencies and amenities never-before-seen in a multi-tenant facilities market.

196 federal data centres to be shuttered in fiscal 2013

The federal government plans to close 196 data centres in fiscal 2013 according to newly-released figures to data.gov by the General Services Administration's federal data centre consolidation initiative program management office. Of the 196 data centres set to close 106, or 54% are owned by the Department of Defense. The Agriculture Department plans to close 25, almost 13 % the total closures planned for next year. The Health and Human Services Department plans to close 12 data centres, or about 6% of the total.

Fortune Data Centers signs first turnkey customer to San Jose facility

Fortune Data Centers has added Zoosk as its first turnkey customer at the San Jose facility. Zoosk, the romantic social network, will migrate from a retail colocation facility to Fortune's s wholesale data centre. Fortune's turnkey solution offers a physically secured suite with dual independent power paths for tenant IT.

Claro Chile invests in new data centre

Claro Chile, a subsidiary of Mexico ‘s America Movil, in turn owned by the World’s richest man, Carlos Slim, has begun operating what is claims is the largest  data centre in Latin America.
