Data Foundry, a provider of wholesale and retail data centre outsourcing, colocation, and disaster recovery services, has announced the selection of JPMorgan Chase Bank, as the sole lender for the company's next-generation data centre facility, Texas 1.

Cyber Wurx has announced a US$7 million expansion with plans to open its second data centre in the Atlanta area.

Fogo Data Centers has invested US$5 million in a facility in Carrollton - the first of seven planned, primarily in the South.

The 10,000 sq ft Carrollton data center is a Tier 3, equipped with redundant power and network supplies. The facility is targeted at small and mid-sized business, educational institutions and local government, Fogo Data Center’s Josh Rhine said.

Jefferson County officials have agreed to sell 4.5 acres to Community Health Systems for a US$25 million data centre in an industrial park on Lakeshore Parkway. The company plans to create up to 15 jobs at the centre in the Jefferson Metropolitan Park Lakeshore, or JeffMet Lakeshore as it is known. The Jefferson County Economic and Industrial Development Authority Board agreed to sell the property to Franklin, Tenn.-based CHS for US$360,000, or US$80,000 per acre.

New York real-estate investor, YoungWoo & Associates of Manhattan, and Seattle property developer, Sabey Corp., have reached a tentative deal to buy the former downtown Verizon tower for more than US$100 million. Currently the building is owned by M&T Bank

Despite a need for many renovations, the building is very appealing to Sabey due to it’s sturdy floors, high ceilings and electrical capacity, as the company is known for developing former telecom properties into spaces for data centres.

Alpheus Communications, the largest competitive fibre network operator in Texas, announced today that it has acquired valuable new fibre rings in east Dallas County and Downtown Fort Worth from FiberLight.

The transaction constitutes Alpheus’ fifth major fibre acquisition in the last five years. In addition to fibre purchases, the company also builds rings and laterals in order to serve the high growth corridors in Texas and operates hardened data centres at the edges of a carrier-grade optical network.

Apple is likely employing specialized hardware at its newest data centre, a third-party announcement suggests. While refusing to name their client directly, two firms -- Instor and Electrorack -- say they have finished a project involving custom enclosures at a large data centre in North Carolina. Apple only recently established a facility in the vicinity of Maiden in Catawba County.

While the Verizon data centre is still focused on Laramie, a similar facility is looking at locating in Cheyenne. Wyoming Business Council CEO Bob Jensen has said there are two other data centres looking at locating in Wyoming. One of those data centres is looking at Cheyenne, Jensen noted. But he did not know the company's name.

Verizon has acquired an option to buy 160 acres of land in Laramie for a data centre. If Verizon locates in Laramie, it could lead to other data centres opening in Wyoming, Jensen said.

The computer network of the company that runs the Nasdaq stock exchange has allegedly been infiltrated multiple times over the past year. According to the Wall Street Journal, which on Saturday cited people "familiar with the matter", the exchange's trading platform has not been affected. However, investigators are stumped as to the goal of the hackers.

Violin Memory has raised US$35 Million in a second round of funding that included Toshiba Corp. Toshiba previously invested in the Mountain View company in April 2010. Also joining the new round was the Sunnyvale-based networking equipment maker Juniper Networks along with corporate partners and unnamed investors.

Violin Memory is developing data centre storage systems that use flash memory, which offers faster speed but until recently has been more expensive than hard-disk technology

UTC Power has announced that Cox Communications has installed four of its new generation 400 kilowatt stationary fuel cells at Cox facilities in San Diego and Rancho Santa Margarita, California.

UTC Power installed and will service the PureCell System Model 400 units at a Cox Communications administrative building, a master telecommunications centre and data centre. All are powered by a blend of biogas and natural gas.

Paetec, a business communications company, will open a new 4,400 sq ft data centre in Phoenix.

The data centre will help local and regional businesses maintain their data, server operating applications, network and communications assets, the company said. It will offer data backup and recovery, dedicated hosted services, as well as shared web hosting. It's located at 1710 E. Grant St. Paetec has plans to open several more throughout 2011

TW Telecom has posted a 5% increase in revenue in 2010 and saw its net income grow tenfold due largely to a one-time tax benefit.

After a US$227 million tax benefit, the Douglas County-based business telecom posted a yearlong profit of US$271 million on revenue of US$1.3 billion, the company reported. That compares to a US$27.6 million profit on US$1.2 billion revenue posted in 2009.

A new data storage centre will soon break ground in Bethlehem's Commerce Center. The city's planning commission unanimously approved waivers and the preliminary site design plan for the 300,000 sq ft data storage centre that could bring as many as 100 new jobs to the area.

Majestic Realty Vice President Skip Bailey said that since preliminary approval was given, that construction could begin shortly for the project. Bailey indicated that not-yet-named company that will occupy the building has its headquarters in the western United States and has been looking to expand.

Madison-based TDS Telecommunications is planning a US$14 million expansion of the Team Cos. data centre in Fitchburg.

Construction, which is scheduled to begin in spring, will double the capacity of the facility and bring total sellable space to approximately 15,000 sq ft. The facility, which opened in 2008, is at 5515 Noble Drive. The expansion will maintain the data centre’s features, including the ability to withstand a tornado, 14- to 24-inch concrete and steel walls and biometric iris scanners for security within the building.

It will take the Social Security Administration at least until mid 2016 to build a new data centre to safely handle and store nearly 500,000 electronic records that determine benefits. Meanwhile, the agency's current data centre is in danger of "catastrophic failure," government officials told two congressional subcommittees.

Fuelled by demand from businesses that need someone to store and manage their digital information, Peak 10 recently completed an expansion of its data centre on Park Central Drive near East Parham Road, nearly doubling the facility to 30,000 sq ft.

The company expanded the centre because growing customer demand meant it would need more space, said Mark Wensell, vice president and general manager of Peak 10's Richmond-area operations.

Lincoln County wants to get into the data-centre business too. Duke Energy and McCallum Sweeny Consulting have found that a 65-acre site off US Highway 321 would be perfect for a data centre. The land has easy access to both Interstate 85 and Interstate 40 and can be connected to a high-voltage electric line.

Intellifiber Networks has announced it has won a multi-million dollar contract to provide managed network services to one of the largest data centres in North America. The Richmond, Virginia site, owned and operated by Quality Technology Services (QTS), is their newest and largest location, spanning 1.3 million sq ft including up to 550,000 sq ft of raised floor space and 150MW of power.

Unite Private Networks reported that it has inked a contract with Houston County Schools to develop an optical fibre communication network in Perry and Warner Robins, Georgia. The company has signed a 10-year contract for Wide Area Network (WAN) services with Houston County Schools. The 66-mile fibre-optic network will offer a substantial boost in the bandwidth capacity for the District.

UPN, currently providing fibre-optic broadband services in U.S 14 states, offers fibre-based communications networks to enterprise business customers, data centres, carriers, and schools.

HP Enterprise Services has won US$281 million, seven-year contract extension with the state to continue providing health care IT services. The service agreement with the Oklahoma Health Care Authority adds new information technology services to help the state prepare for health care reform and make services more accessible to SoonerCare members.

Atlanta-based T5 has selected a US$75 million site for its data centre operations in the city of Alpharetta. Brandon Beach, president and CEO of the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce, congratulated the company. "This is great news, not only for North Fulton, but for the entire region," said Beach. "This data centre will support our current businesses and those that will be bringing new jobs to the area."

The data Center will consist of a 103,000 sq ft building, expected to open in November. When completed, T5's data centre will be among the five largest in the region.

Global Crossing will make major upgrades to its North American network in 2011, including setting up two data centres and beefing up its core network with ultra-long-haul capability, company officials have said.

Level 3 Communications has announced that it has extended its network infrastructure in Georgia with the construction of a full network point of presence and fibre node at Global Net Access’ AtlantaNAP Data Center, the main healthcare IT hub in Georgia.

The data centre hosts a range of customers, including Georgia’s two largest hospital systems, who may choose to have Level 3 provide them with direct access to over 190 markets served by Level 3’s international, IP network and the ability to efficiently and economically leverage the full range of Level 3’s services.

Phoenix NAP, a next generation data centre and network access point, has announced Sequris Group, an information security systems company, has chosen the Phoenix NAP facility to meet its hosting needs.

Digital Realty Trust, a global wholesale data centre provider, has received the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power Sustainability Award in recognition of energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives at Digital Realty Trust's 600 W. 7th Street data centre facility. Located in downtown Los Angeles, this 450,000 sq ft building is one of the largest a data centre and telecommunications facilities in the United States.

Apple's North Carolina-based data centre will finally open its doors this spring and will support iTunes and MobileMe, said the company's chief operating officer Tim Cook during its annual shareholders meeting.

Wargaming.net announced today the company is using Caronet data centre facilities for operating its highly-anticipated MMO action game WORLD OF TANKS in North America. Caronet owns and operates a large private data centre complex specializing in reliable infrastructure to enable totally fail-safe online operations.

A spokesman for the University of Arkansas, Steve Voorhies, said the data centre in the Administrative Services Building lost power about 5 p.m. Friday night. "The University of Arkansas successfully restored power Saturday afternoon and is working to restore network connectivity to the servers that host the university’s web pages and e-mail services following a major power failure," Voorhies said. The power failure was in an underground power cable conduit on campus.

GoGrid, a leading cloud infrastructure provider, has announced its third data centre expansion in six months with the extension of its platform into Digital Realty Trust's 365 Main Street property.
