FORTRUST announces completion of a major modular data centre expansion

FORTRUST, the Rocky Mountain Region's premier data centre and colocation services provider, announced that they have completed the first phase of a modular expansion that will add an additional 11.4MW of critical IT load at 2N to the FORTRUST Denver facility in an incremental modular design methodology.

UPMC buys RECs to power data centres commits

Healthcare provider UPMC has purchased renewable energy credits (RECs) from Pennsylvania wind power to equal the entire annual energy usage from its data canters.

According to UPMC, the company purchased 15,400 RECs generated by wind projects in Pennsylvania from Pittsburgh-based EverPower Wind Holdings. This purchase equates to 15,400,000 kWh of renewable electricity, accounting for 100% of the annual electricity usage by the company's corporate and Shadyside data centres.

Federal Agencies realizing data centre consolidation benefits

Since the Office of Management and Budget launched the Federal Data Center Consolidation Initiative (FDCCI) in 2010 agencies have scrambled to meet the 2015 deadline of closing 1,200 data centres. More than halfway to the key date, agencies have found that data centre consolidation can save money, boost efficiencies, and free up dollars that can be used for innovation or to fund other programs. According to a new report by MeriTalk, the government IT network, underwritten by NetApp, agencies are making FDCCI progress and many are on track to meet the 2015 deadline.

Alpheus Communications extends Ethernet services into Mexico

Alpheus Communications, a leading provider of Texas metro-regional fibre and networking solutions, has expanded its capabilities to provide Ethernet services from the U.S. into Mexico through a new network-to-network interface agreement with Marcatel, a leading Mexican concessionaire. The new relationship creates an optical NNI in McAllen, Texas, and allows Alpheus and Marcatel to buy each other’s services.
