Cloudworks has announced the launch of two new data centres in Arizona and Maryland, through its recent partnership with Ongoing Operations, that provide cloud-based IT solutions aimed at the financial services industry. The data centres also provide expanded redundancy and disaster recovery for the company’s services in all industries.

Yahoo to invest US$500 million in data centre expansions

Yahoo has revealed plans to invest US$500 million in expanding its data centre infrastructure. Yahoo says it plans to build in 2012 and beyond. The planned expansion includes existing data centres in Buffalo, Omaha and Washington state and new facilities in Singapore and Switzerland.

“We are in essence rewiring the entire infrastructure of Yahoo,” Scott Noteboom, the head of data centre operations at Yahoo said. “We’ve gained approval to invest half a billion dollars to build new data centres. We’ll be migrating the entire footprint of Yahoo to these more efficient facilities.”

SAIC wins US$208 million task for U.S. Department of Agriculture

Science Applications International Corporation has announced it was awarded a prime task to provide mission support IT services in support of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Risk Management Agency. The task order, competitively awarded under the GSA Alliant contract by the U.S. General Services Administration Federal Systems Integration and Management Center has a one year base period of performance, four one-year options and a total value of US$208 million if all options are exercised. Work will be performed primarily in Kansas City, Mo. and Washington, D.C.
