Data centres offer hope for St. Louis office market

Several recent transactions are raising the possibility that this city’s downtown, a depressed office market with an overall vacancy rate of over 22%, may become a regional hub for computer software and data-centre companies. The deals include a decision by Unisys to locate a new software centre in a century-old building a block from the riverfront and the expansion of several large data-centre operations by other companies.

Dupont Fabros posts profits

Dupont Fabros Technology, whose data centres house Internet servers in Northern Virginia and California, reported profits for its latest quarter compared to a loss a year ago. The company’s fourth quarter revenue rose more than 25% to US$66 million. Dupont Fabros raised US$179 million in a preferred stock offering last fall on top of a US$305 million secondary stock offering earlier in the year. It is using the proceeds to fund data centre expansion and reduce debt.

Tax benefit boosts TW Telecom profit

TW Telecom has posted a 5% increase in revenue in 2010 and saw its net income grow tenfold due largely to a one-time tax benefit.

After a US$227 million tax benefit, the Douglas County-based business telecom posted a yearlong profit of US$271 million on revenue of US$1.3 billion, the company reported. That compares to a US$27.6 million profit on US$1.2 billion revenue posted in 2009.

TMX Group welcomes Fidessa Canada to its colocation facility

TMX Group and Fidessa Canada Corporation have announced that Fidessa has selected TMX's colocation facility to operate its trading solutions. Fidessa, along with other colocated clients, receives the benefits of direct high-speed access to the Toronto Stock Exchange, TSX Venture Exchange and Montreal Exchange trading engines and market data feeds.

Paetec data centre opens in Phoenix

Paetec, a business communications company, will open a new 4,400 sq ft data centre in Phoenix.

The data centre will help local and regional businesses maintain their data, server operating applications, network and communications assets, the company said. It will offer data backup and recovery, dedicated hosted services, as well as shared web hosting. It's located at 1710 E. Grant St. Paetec has plans to open several more throughout 2011

US Signal gets stronger in Mid West and opens Ohio data centre

US Signal is again expanding its Midwest footprint with the addition of several locations in Indiana and Ohio. US Signal, which provides data-bandwith capacity in several Midwestern states, says the expansion is a big part of the company’s strategy to connect growing small and medium-size markets to larger cities.
