NaviSite to unveil newest NaviCloud Node in its San Jose data centre

NaviSite, a provider of enterprise-class hosting, managed application, managed messaging and managed cloud services, has announced plans to unveil its newest NaviCloud node in San Jose, CA. The ribbon cutting ceremony and reception will be held at the San Jose data centre on February 2, 2011

NYI achieves SSAE 16 compliance at data centres

Colocation and data centre operator New York Internet has announced that it has achieved SSAE 16 compliance at its two main data centres at 100 William Street in NYC and 999 Frontier Road in New Jersey.

SSAE 16 replaces the SAS 70 Type II standard, which will no longer be valid starting June 15, 2011. SSAE 16 assures customers that their data is protected by the most current industry standards.

Purdue University to consolidate data centres

At the midpoint of the 2010-11 fiscal year, Purdue's information technology areas are well under way to meeting their target of returning US5 million to the university's general fund. Gerry McCartney, vice president for information technology, chief information officer, told members of the University Senate that so far the IT areas have identified US$4.7 million to return to the university general fund.

US$20 million data centre looks to bring jobs to Jefferson County

Jefferson County industrial officials say a company wants to set up a US$20 million data centre in Jefferson Metropolitan Park Lakeshore. Carma Jude, executive director of the Jefferson County Industrial Development Authority, said the project would create 10 jobs. She wouldn't identify the company, whose interest in buying 4½ acres in the park was discussed during a board meeting. "The company wants to buy land for a data centre facility," Jude said in an interview after the meeting. "It would fit in well at the park. That property is becoming a great technology centre.

Appeal filed in Verizon data centre lawsuit

The battle over a proposed Verizon data centre in Niagara County is not over yet.

A State Supreme Court justice dismissed a lawsuit seeking to block the multi-billion dollar project in Somerset. But the property owner who filed that lawsuit has now filed an appeal. State Senator George Maziarz and Assemblyman Stephen Hawley are asking the appeals court to quickly dismiss the appeal, claiming it is putting dozens of new, high-paying jobs in jeopardy.
