Major Japanese electronics maker NEC is going to set up a joint venture with a Chinese IT company to offer cloud computing services in China. China’s Neusoft Group and NEC agreed to jointly establish a company in Dalian, China, in October 2010. It is the first time for a Japanese company to launch cloud computing services in China.

Bharti Airtel, a global telecom company with operations in 19 countries across Asia and Africa, has launched its Global Data services in Thailand and Malaysia, which include IPL, Managed MPLS and Ethernet for customers in the region.

Over 72% of India’s IT infrastructure companies will adopt cloud computing in a big way over the next 2-3 years, according to a new study by Ernst & Young. The study titled “Cloud adoption in India-Infrastructure as a Service” is based on interviews with 50 chief information officers from leading SMB, enterprises and IaaS ecosystem players.

HCL, Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro and Sify are among the six companies that are learnt to have submitted bids to set up and maintain ‘State Data Centre' in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The project entails building and managing the entire data centre infrastructure for the Union Territory, for a period of five years. Industry watchers expect the value of the SDC contract to be below Rs 35 crore.

Force10 Networks has unveiled its new Innovation Center, a 44,000 sq ft facility that houses its India headquarters, development lab and data centre in Olympia Technology Park.

The move to its new Innovation Center -- some 30% larger than its former facility -- comes on the fifth anniversary of Force10's India operations. The company said it plans to invest another US$10 million to outfit and operate its new 3,500 sq ft development lab, which is more than twice the size of its former lab. The new 1,500 sq ft data centre also has doubled in size.

The Japanese government will introduce cloud computing to its data network systems, reports the Nikkei citing Internal Affairs and Communications Minister Kazuhiro Haraguchi.

The TeleHouse Vietnam data centre has opened to all data-related services for businesses involved in telecommunications, finance and banking. At a total cost of US$5 million, TeleHouse Vietnam is designed and equipped with systems in line with global Tele House standards.

TeleHouse Vietnam was established in coordination with FPT Information System Corporation which holds 51% of the shares, and two Japanese groups, KDDI and ITX that provide data centre and information technology services.

EMC, the world leader in information infrastructure solutions has announced findings of the IDC Digital Universe Study, sponsored by EMC, 20101, titled "The Digital Universe in India” and its key initiatives to address customer challenges associated with the digital information deluge.

The study revealed that over the next decade (2010 to 2020), digital information in India will grow from 40,000 petabytes to 2.3 million petabytes, twice as fast as the worldwide rate.

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited has established detailed requirements for the Next Generation Data Centre that it plans to build at Hong Kong’s Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate.

The centre’s total floor area has been increased to 31,400 sq m from about 13,300 sq m in the preliminary plan to make maximum use of the allowable plot ratio. HKEx still aims to move the primary data centre for its securities market to the centre in the middle of 2012.

Taiwan's government is throwing its hat into the cloud computing ring. The island’s government has announced plans to invest US$744 million to develop cloud computing technology and services during the next five years. Government officials said developing cloud computing technology will help push integration between the hardware, software, and service industries to allow Taiwan to begin exporting cloud services.

China VoIP & Digital Telecom's Beijing PowerUnique Technology Company has signed several virtualization agreements to implement an integrated virtualization solution at data centres in Huizhou Power Supply Bureau, Shantou Power Supply Bureau and South East Motor.

Huizhou Power Supply Bureau and Shantou Power Supply Bureau are two additional clients signed by CVDT and its alliance partners in the energy industry. Both Huizhou and Shantou power supply bureaus are the subsidiaries of Guangdong Power Grid.

IT service provider, PicNet, has secured a four-year contract with long-time customer, DMS Maritime. PicNet has been working with the maritime services company since 2003 but has now broadened the relationship beyond providing IT support. The new contract will encompass IT infrastructure and network support, software development, project management and consultancy services.

PicNet will also provide help desk services, disaster recovery and WAN optimisation with Riverbed products.

The ICT contracts to build the Queensland Government's foundation infrastructure have been awarded, Minister for Public Works and Information and Communication Technology Robert Schwarten has announced. "Valued at AUS$12 million, these contracts will enable consolidation of the Government's CBD data centres, networks and infrastructure services to CITEC, the primary government IT service provider," said Mr Schwarten.

CQG, the order execution, charting, and analytics provider for electronically-traded futures markets, and KVH., the Japanese IT and communications provider, have announced that CQG has selected KVH's ultra low latency networks and proximity hosting solutions suite, "KVH Trading Avenue," for its trading connectivity in Japan.

CQG will locate its Hosted Exchange Gateways for major Japanese exchanges at KVH Tokyo data centre beginning October 1st, 2010.

The newly created company with registered capital of RMB 48 million will establish a cloud computing science park. Yinquan Technology will invest RMB 13 million in the holding company.

Jet Airways has said it signed a ten-year business transformation and information technology services agreement with IBM for US$62 million.

IBM will provide Jet Airways employee transition, data centre operations, central helpdesk support, server and storage operations and internet security services among other IT applications.

Oracle has revealed plans to offer its customer relationship management on-demand suite as a hosted service from a Sydney data centre under a deal signed with hosting partner HarbourMSP. The hosted service, set to go live in November 2010 from racks within Sydney's Global Switch data centre, will prove a tempting option for government agencies and financial institutions prohibited under legislation from off shoring data.

Fujitsu has signed a four-year IT services contract with Toyota Motor Australia Limited, one of Australia's automotive companies. The new contract will see Fujitsu consolidate existing IT agreements and provide managed desktop and service desk support.

Working as part of Toyota Australia's IT department, Fujitsu will manage the consolidation and standardisation of existing midrange and mainframe agreements and the provision of end to end Managed Desktop and Service Desk into a single joint agreement.

Go Daddy is expanding its global reach with another data centre – in Singapore. The highly efficient operation is designed to enable faster services for Go Daddy’s Web hosting and e-mail customers in Asia. The facility accommodates Go Daddy’s rapidly expanding customer base, which already exceeds 8.4 million people worldwide.

In recent years, the world’s largest Web host provider, also the world’s top domain name registrar, has grown its customer base exponentially in places like Japan, South Korea and Taiwan, regions that account for 42% of the Internet population.

In its bid to join the other states marching ahead in the e-governance arena, the Mayawati led Uttar Pradesh government has selected Tata Consultancy Services to develop the State Data Center for the e-delivery of government services.

The Australian economy may not be large enough to warrant international vendors launching dedicated data centres to provide cloud services to the local and Asia Pacific markets, a senior federal government bureaucrat has warned.

Equinix, a provider of global data centre services, has announced plans to build its third International Business Exchange data centre, called TY3, in Tokyo, Japan. The US$70 million, 79,600 gross-sq ft TY3 IBX data centre, targeted for completion in mid-2011, will offer 960 cabinet equivalents to data centric industries including cloud and IT services providers, online content and financial market participants doing business in Japan.

Orissa is among the five states in the country where the implementation of the State Data Centre, a project being taken up under the centrally sponsored National e-Governance Plan is in advanced stages of implementation. The SDC project is expected to be fully implemented in Orissa by the end of October this year, according to a report of the Department of Information Technology of the Government of India.

The other states where the implementation of SDC is in advanced stages are Tripura, Gujarat, Sikkim and West Bengal.

Data centres moved to regional Australia and hooked up to the National Broadband Network will make cities more eco-friendly, according to Ilkka Tales, CEO of hosted services company Anittel.

China Telecom is looking to establish a cable connection between China and India, and is eyeing three Indian telecom players for a deal, Wall Street Journal said. The company is looking to establish a representative office in New Delhi and is awaiting approval, Deng Xiao Feng, chief executive of China Telecom’s Hong Kong-based arm, told WSJ in an interview.
