Green data centre start-up NEXTDC has revealed plans to list on the Australian Securities Exchange chasing a A$60 million capital injection NEXTDC chief executive Bevan Slattery said the company expected to lodge its prospectus on November 9.

Mr Slattery would seek to raise about $40m and that he would personally inject $20m in cash into the company. The deal would be underwritten by investment banks RBS Morgan and US-based Moelis & Co, he said. The funds will almost certainly be used to fund acquisitions.

Third quarter revenue to 30 September at Reading-based IT services company Logica was up slightly on last year at US£863 million. The company said it continued to outperform the market in outsourcing, with revenue growth of seven per cent in the third quarter and revenue up eight per cent in the year to date.

Full year revenue is expected to be at a similar level to 2009's £3.7 billion. Chief executive Andy Green said the return to growth reflected strengthened financial services demand across all markets.

Cincinnati Bell has reported lower earnings for the third quarter after higher interest costs for its US$525 million CyrusOne acquisition in June.

Net income for the three months ended Sept. 30 was US$14.5 million compared with US$27.7 million, a year ago. The company said the decline in net income stemmed from US$21 million in higher interest expenses for the acquisition of the Texas-based data centre operator.

DuPont has completed the first phase of its new data centre in New Jersey and the second phase of its ACC5 data centre development in Virginia. DuPont has launched both phases on November 1, bringing online 36.4MW of data centre capacity and expanding its portfolio by 30%.

Hossein Fateh, the CEO of DuPont) said that, “We strengthened our balance sheet by issuing preferred stock and using the proceeds to pay off a near-term debt maturity. Additionally, we continue to experience solid demand for our wholesale space from both Internet and enterprise companies.”

PAETEC Holding has announced third quarter 2010 financial and operating results. "The third quarter marked solid growth for PAETEC," said Arunas A. Chesonis, chairman and CEO. "In addition to sequential and year-over-year revenue growth, we opened two new data centres and announced the planned acquisition of Cavalier Telephone which will add over 17,000 new route miles of fibre to our network."

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer called on Europe to provide clearer rules on privacy and data retention issues as his company pushes into remote computing services. Ballmer, whose company is investing heavily in data centres and cloud computing services, said there needs to be a regulatory regime that outlines the responsibilities of companies when providing those services.

Cbeyond has bought cloud service providers MaximumASP of Louisville, Kentucky, and Aretta Communications of Roswell, Georgia, for a combined US$40 million.

Cbeyond, which providers IT and communications services to 55,000 small businesses, said the acquisitions give it an entry into the cloud services market, broaden its geographic footprint and give it new web distribution and private label reseller channels. It also gains a 33,000 sq ft data centre.

A Belfast web company is predicting sky-high profits following a cross-border merger with a cloud computing company. Dediserve, who operate from Dublin, acquired Belfast-based AventureHost as part of its strategy to strengthen its position in the UK cloud-computing market. The deal is expected to bring Dediserve’s annual revenue to €1 million by 2011.

Dediserve is the second-largest web-hosting company in Ireland, and its managing director said he was pleased to have gained an “instant physical presence in Northern Ireland”.

China Mobile has started work on a three-year project to expand its network of data centres in the second half of 2010, with plans to build data centres in seven provinces and cities. The seven provinces and cities include Beijing, Zhejiang, Guangdong and Inner Mongolia.

The data centres will be used to support its mobile network business and the informationalization of its enterprise business. In addition, China Mobile will introduce the cloud computing system into the newly built data centres.

Interxion has announced that it has priced a €60 million offering (the "Offering") of add-on 9.50% Senior Secured Notes due 2017 (the "Notes"). The Notes priced on November 4, 2010 at 106.5% for a yield to maturity of 8.148%. The gross proceeds of the Offering were approximately €64 million.

The net proceeds of the Offering will be used primarily for general corporate purposes, including, without limitation, capital expenditure relating to expansion of existing data centres and construction of new data centres.

Rackspace Hosting, which has data centres in the US, the UK and Hong Kong, has announced its third-quarter profit and revenue increased compared with last year and the previous quarter. The report citing higher customer counts, new services and early returns on investments.

The Web-hosting company reported net revenue of US$199.7 million, a 23% jump compared with the same period last year and a 6.6% increase from the second quarter of 2010. Profit grew 55.3 % year-over-year to US$11.8 million.

PEER 1 Network Enterprises has announced that it has entered into a credit agreement with a syndicate of lenders led by National Bank Financial for a US$45 million non-revolving term facility and a US$30 million revolving credit facility.

euNetworks Group Limited has, announced total revenues for the third quarter of €10.3 million, up 40% from 3Q 2009 and 11% on 2Q 2010. The Group achieved €9.1 million in recurring revenues in the quarter, up 24% from 3Q 2009, with €1.2 million of one offs.

Gross profit for the quarter increased by 38% year on year to €8.0 million, and by 7% on the preceding quarter. Gross margin dropped slightly to 77% in the quarter from 80% in 2Q 2010..

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has selected Accenture as a prime contractor for its 10-year, indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity CDC Information Management Services contract. The CIMS contract will be used to acquire an array of IT services and offerings that support CDC's global public health initiatives including health IT, disease management, predictive analytics, health information exchanges, network systems design, information security services, and infrastructure managed services.

Data centre operator Atomic Data Centers has announced the acquisition of IT services firm 1543AD. They have merged to add Microsoft Software Services to their cloud computing and data management services. Minneapolis-based 1543AD provides IT management and software development.

Atomic Data Centers, which is also headquartered in Minneapolis, currently has seven facilities, including three in Minnesota, Arizona, Georgia, Spain and Hong Kong. The company says it will also open four new data centres in 2011 in California, Texas, New York and Ohio.

The costs of conforming to the Carbon Reduction Commitment should not significantly affect UK data centre companies, a data centre chief has said. The scheme, now called the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme, adds costs to businesses that consume large amounts of electricity, such as data centres. Industry figures have spoken out against it; Kate Craig-Wood, managing director of hosting company Memset, has written on her blog that the CRC "threatens to impede growth and innovation in the data centre industry".

Britain's Phoenix IT posted a 2% rise in first-half profit, as a shift to cloud computing boosted its data centre and hosting business, and said it was confident on the full-year outcome. The IT company, which also provides business continuity services, reported first-half underlying pre-tax profit of £15.1 million on revenue 13.4% higher at £138.4 million.

The Australian Government Information Management Office will brief the industry on the progress of its Data Centre Strategy implementation in a bid to improve awareness and provide an update on the plan.

The briefing will focus on the Data Centre Strategy and AGIMO’s implementation approach through theData Centre Strategy Program. Until now, the industry has only seen request for tender (RFT) documentation. The briefing will be held at the National Press Club at 10am on 2 December 2010.

Excel Micro, a Philadelphia based distributor of Software-as-a-Service has added a new data centre in Dallas, Texas. Sprocket Network’s DAL 2 Tier 3 SAS 70 compliant data centre is housed within the renovated Dallas Federal Reserve building. Their clients include Kraft, Ford, JDPower and Associates, Lucent Technologies, and Register.com.

Excel Micro already has data centres in Swarthmore, PA and Hatfield, PA. Adding an additional data centre in Dallas will allow Excel Micro to better serve clients on the west coast.

The company that keeps Facebook's 500 million members connected will spend up to A$350 million setting up shop in Australia next year.

Data centre equipment firm Mellanox Technologies has announced it will acquire fellow networking technology provider Voltaire for about US$218 million. Mellanox will eventually end up paying US$176 million after taking into account the cash on Voltaire's books. The terms of the transaction have been unanimously approved by the boards of directors of the companies.

Expected to close in the first quarter of 2011, the acquisition will strengthen Mellanox's position as an end-to-end connectivity solutions provider for the growing worldwide data centre server and storage markets.
