  • US Moves Ahead With Assessement Of Data Centre Energy Use

    The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been directed to look into the growth of energy use in data centres in order to find more efficient solutions. The level of energy consumption used and carbon emissions produced by large data centres have raised concerns about energy security and climate change. President George Bush has now signed legislation which authorises the EPA to analyse energy use in data centres and to determine new measures to encourage improved energy efficiency across the technology sector.

  • IBM Announce Data Governance Consulting Service

    IBM have announced a new consultancy service called the IBM Data Governance Maturity Model Assessment. It aims to measure corporate awareness of data quality, risk management and auditing and reporting; and then produce recommendations for improvement. It deals with issues such as regulatory compliance, audits and lifecycle management of data. The model has been developed in consultation with enterprises who make up IBM's Data Governance Council and is due to be launched during the first quarter of 2007.

  • SWsoft Joins SPEC To Assist With Virtualization Benchmarking

    SWsoft has joined the Standard Performance Evaluation Corp. (SPEC) as part of its new working group to develop standard methods of comparing virtualization performance for data center servers. SPEC is a non-profit organization that establishes, maintains and endorses standardized benchmarks to measure the performance of the newest generation of high-performance computers. SWsoft is the maker of Virtuozzo operating system virtualization software, which allows a single Linux or Windows OS instance to be dynamically partitioned into multiple, highly-efficient virtual environments.

  • SNIA?S SMI-S Standard Adopted By ISO And IEC

    The Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) has announced that its Storage Management Initiative Specification (SMI-S) has been designated an International Standard by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). This designation is expected to further accelerate the already widespread adoption of the standard by storage vendors and IT users in all markets worldwide.
