    Level 3 Communications' Content Markets Group has announced that it has been selected by Crackle, Inc., a Sony Pictures Entertainment Company, to support that company's high-quality video delivery service. Under the terms of the multi-year agreement, Level 3 will provide Crackle underlying network solutions including High Speed Internet Access via multiple 10 Gigabits per second (GigE) ports and colocation services to enable Crackle's continued growth and provide a better experience for Crackle's customers through improved speed and reliability.

  • Terremark Chosen To Help Nortel Expand Hosted Solutions

    Terremark Worldwide, Inc. (NASDAQ:TMRK), a leading provider of managed IT infrastructure services, has announced that Nortel (NYSE:NT) has selected Terremark to support the expansion of its hosted communications solutions for carriers and enterprises. Terremark will provide datacenter space and managed services to help Nortel increase its hosted solutions infrastructure beyond existing capacity under a non-exclusive agreement. The companies also plan to explore other options, including additional Terremark datacenter locations worldwide.

    3PAR (NYSE Arca: PAR), the leading global provider of utility storage, announced today that Alert Logic, Inc., the industry's leading provider of on-demand IT compliance and security solutions, has chosen 3PAR Utility Storage to consolidate and scale its mission-critical hosted software-as-a-service (SaaS) environment. Alert Logic selected two 3PAR InServ S800 Storage Servers for their high availability, seamless scalability, and ease of use.

  • COLT Study Shows That Third Party Data Centre Use Is Likely To Grow

    A study commissioned by COLT Telecom indicates that 75 per cent of UK businesses plan to increase their use of 3rd party Data Centres to offset the rising cost and complexity of managing in-house Data Centres. Up to half of UK businesses are using some degree of 3rd party management already with 48 per cent opting to increase their use of third parties immediately. The survey questioned 400 IT directors in businesses with more than 500 employees in 13 countries. UK firms were most likely to use a 3rd party Data Centre specialist.

  • Colt Wins 3 Year Managed Services Contract With Borsa Italia

    COLT Telecom has won a 3 year IP VPN and Data Centre contract from the Borsa Italia (Italian Stock Exchange). COLT will provide both national and international connectivity using an MPLS based IP-VPN network using Ethernet connectivity in the Milan hub site. It will provide connectivity to the customer's 100 international trading partners in Italy and overseas. Back up ISDN services are also provided to ensure a high degree of resilience. The customer is also using COLT to host its hardware platforms at its Data Centre in Turin.

  • Accenture And Thomas Cook Enter Into 10 Year Outsourcing Contract

    Accenture has announced that it has won a USD400 million 10-year outsourcing contract with Thomas Cook Group plc. The contract includes application management, technology infrastructure management, finance, accounting and human resources services. The contract replaces a previous agreement signed in 2002 which intended to cater for the integration of the recently acquired MyTravel functions into the existing outsourced functions of Thomas Cook. A number of applications will be catered for under the contract including SAP-based enterprise resource planning and payroll services.

  • Verizon Business Wins IPVPN And Hosting Deal With Deltek

    Verizon Business has won a contract with Deltek, a provider of enterprise applications software for project-focused companies, to provide a range of contact centre; equipment and network services. Under the agreement Verizon Business will supply Managed Private IP, Managed IP PBX, Web Center, voice service and audio and video conferencing to Deltek in order to provide a single converged IP network. Deltek will connect 1,200 employees across 14 locations in the US, Europe; Australia and the Philippines.

  • EDS Wins Outsourcing Contract With Daimler Financial Services

    Daimler Financial Services Americas, the company which provides financing for the Mercedez-Benz group dealers and customers in the US, has agreed a 3 year contract for transition and Data Centre hosting services with EDS. EDS will relocate and then manage the financial services company's IT environment. EDS will provide the migration as part of the EDS Agility Alliance partner scheme, which includes storage company EMC, Cisco Systems; Microsoft, Oracle, SAP, Sun Microsystems and Xerox.

  • Attenda Wins Contract With Miomi.com

    Attenda, a UK-based hosting operator, has signed a new 3 year contract to host and manage Miomi.com. Miomi.com provides a website that allows users to view and share content through the construction of a personal history (including photos, video and audio) which can then be linked into a timeline to tell a story. Content is provided from Microsoft Encarta, Wikipedia and other news sources as well. Attenda is providing the infrastructure and is using Microsoft technologies with an architecture designed to be scalable according to site usage.

  • Rackspace EMEA Wins Shrink My Tunes Hosting

    Rackspace Managed Hosting has announced that it has concluded a contract with software group Z GROUP to host ShrinkMyTunes.com. ShrinkMyTunes.com software compresses MP3 audio files and allows up to 4 times the storage capacity on audio devices including the new iPhone.

  • Telvent Provides Hosting For UNED

    Spanish IT services and Data Centre company Telvent has won a contract to host the web services of Spain's Universidad Nacional de Educacion a Distancia (UNED), Spain's major online University with over 160,000 students. UNED will now migrate its servers from its own facility to Telvent's Data Centres and Telvent will be responsible for providing 24 hour per day 365 days a year web services. It will have to also provide web access to UNED. The web service is estimated to provide 5 million page views to around 200,000 users.

  • 3i Infotech Opens IDC In Chennai, India

    3i Infotech, an Indian-based operational systems and database company, has launched its first Data Centre in Chennai, India. The facility is to offer managed hosting services for application and disaster recovery. The company has also introduced remote IT infrastructure management services which will be controlled from its Global Network & Security Operations Centre which will also be based in Chennai. The Chennai facility consists of 25,000 square feet of gross space with the data centrde accounting for 6,000 square feet of the total.

  • BT And HP Alliance In ICT Outsourcing Deal With Aibel International Oil Services

    Norwegian international oil company Aibel International has outsourced its IT infrastructure to BT Global Services and HP in a deal worth an initial NOK 335 million over 5 years. Under the deal BT will be the lead contractor and will provide a converged IP network; helpdesk and messaging platform. HP will manage Aibel's existing Data Centres and provide local help desk support. Some 29 Aibel employees will transfer to either BT or HP under the deal.

  • SAVVIS Expands US Hosting Product Portfolio

    The US-based provider of hosting and applications services SAVVIS, has announced the launch of a new hosting service, SAVVIS Foundation Hosting. The company has also introduced the HP BladeSystem c-Class blade server onto the existing SAVVIS hosting IT infrastructure. The SAVVIS Foundation Hosting product is an entry level product positioned between a co location and a Managed IT service. It is suitable for enterprises who are not willing to opt yet for a complete on-demand virtualized utility application service and who wish to retain control of their Operating System (OS).
