Ashley Atkins, Business Development Director, Level 3 Communications
Ashley Atkins is Director of Business Development for Level 3 Communications in Europe. Ashley joined Level 3 in February 2000, initially running the Sales Engineering team in Europe. In February 2003, he moved to the Product Management team where he was responsible for Level 3’s Colocation in Europe. From mid 2007 to 2009 he managed the Network Planning and Deployment department for Europe, and then took up his current role of Business Development Director. Before joining Level 3, Ashley worked in a number of planning and engineering management roles for BT. Ashley has an MSc in Telecommunications Business Management from University of London. He is based in the London office.
Christian Belady, P.E., Director of Hardware Architecture - Partner Extreme Computing Group, Microsoft Research
A recognized leader in the industry, Christian Belady is the Director of Hardware Architecture in the Extreme Computing Group at Microsoft Research where he leads a team responsible for exploring hardware opportunities related to the future of client plus cloud computing. Prior to his current role, he was Microsoft’s Principal Infrastructure Architect for Global Foundation Services where his role was to improve both efficiency and cost in their online services infrastructure. His responsibilities included driving initiatives for sustainability in the data center and infrastructure space, and he was one of the key architects for the Generation 4 modular data centers.

Prior to joining Microsoft, Christian was a Distinguished Technologist for HP where his responsibilities included driving the technology direction in HP's server products and their environments, as well as driving industry data center initiatives. In addition, his earlier employers include Convex Computers (acquired by HP), TI and IBM.

With over 77 US patents and many international patents, Christian is an ASME and IMAPS Fellow and a founding member of ASHRAE's TC9.9, which is responsible for developing data center guidelines. He was one of the early architects of the Green Grid and currently the treasurer for the organization, and is an originator of the Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) metric used to determine the energy efficiency of a data center which is now broadly used by the industry. He also works closely with government agencies globally to define efficiency metrics for data centers and servers.

Christian has published several dozen papers, is frequently quoted in the press, and is a featured speaker on power and cooling trends in the industry. Since the late 1990s, the focus of his publications has been on data centers and the industry’s need for engineering efficient computing environments. Christian holds engineering degrees from Cornell University (BS) and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (MS) and a business degree from the University of Texas at Dallas (MA) where he was honored with the 2010 Distinguished Alumni Award.
Dr. Paolo Bertoldi, Principal Administrator, European Commission Directorate General Joint Research Centre, Institute for Environment and Sustainability
Paolo Bertoldi has a Doctor Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1985 at the University of Padova (Italy). He has been working with the European Commission since 1986. From 1986 to 1993 he was working in the EU nuclear fusion project, Joint Undertaking Torus (JET) in the UK. For 1993 until April 2001, he was Administrator with the European Commission, DG Energy and Transport (DG TREN, Brussels Belgium), in charge of EU regulatory and voluntary programmes for the rational use of energy in end-use equipment, buildings and industry. He was also in charge of negotiated and long term agreements with industry and tertiary sectors and the GreenLight programme. Since May 2001, he is Principal Administrator at the European Commission Joint Research Centre (Ispra, Italy), in charge of research activities for energy efficiency policy, the efficient use of electricity and innovative policy instruments (e.g. white certificates, financing mechanisms, emission trading). He continues to manage the GreenLight, Motor Challenge and Standby Initiative programmes on behalf of DG TREN.
Ellen Brigham, Director of Product Marketing - Juniper Networks
Ellen Brigham is Director of Product Marketing at Juniper Networks responsible for Data Center products and solutions. With over three decades of experience developing products and solutions for data center infrastructure, she has held multiple management positions in networking at Cisco Systems, Hewlett-Packard and Tymnet. Ellen holds a Masters Degree from Stanford University and is a member of the IEEE and the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society.
Paul-François Cattier, Vice President France, Benelux & French speaking Africa, APC by Schneider Electric and Chair, France for Datacenters
Paul-François Cattier, vice-president of France, Benelux & French speaking Africa for APC by Schneider Electric and Chair, France for Datacenters, joined MGE UPS Systems in 2005.

Paul-François Cattier took over APC in 2007, when Schneider Electric acquired APC and formed the IT Business, merging MGE and APC.
Paul-François Cattier has more than 27 years of IT experience in both the products and the services segment.
Prior to APC by Schneider Electric, he held different positions in sales and management functions in companies like Alcatel, Philips, Digital, and Cabletron & Anixter

He created and helds a chair in “France for Datacenters”, a club which goal is to promote France nationally and abroad as a host country for datacenters. Its actions in terms of strategic thinking and political dialog locally, nationally and also abroad aim to combine efforts and obtain mainly legislative and administrative flexibility.

Frederic CHARRON is a senior consultant on Data Center’s technical infrastructures operation and management. He performs audit, advises in the context of progress plan on quality and the operating procedures.

Lex Coors, VP, Group Data Centre Technology & Engineering, Interxion
As Interxion’s VP, Group Data Centre Technology & Engineering, Lex has supervised the design, build and upgrade of over 55,000m² of data centre space in 26 locations in 11 countries. Over the past 25 years he has built exceptionally strong credentials in the design of versatile, cost-effective and energy-efficient data centre infrastructure.

Lex studied Mechanical Engineering and then Management and Economics in Rotterdam. During his time with Interxion, he has pioneered several new approaches to data centre design and management, including the improvement of power ratio efficiency between server load and transformer load, and the industry’s first ever modular approach to data centre architecture.

Lex is a founder member of the Uptime Institute, a member of the European Commission DG Joint Research Committee on Sustainability and the European Data Centre Code of Conduct Metrics Group. He also acts as Liaison Officer for The Green Grid in their collaboration with the European Commission, and he is a member of the Executive Advisory Board for the Uptime Institute for their forthcoming symposium in New York in April 2010 “Data Centre Efficiency & Green Enterprise IT”.
Steve Chisholm, CEO, Alchemy Plus
Steve is CEO and a founding Director and Shareholder of Alchemy Plus, a Microsoft Gold Partner and pioneer of utility and cloud based business computing solutions. Based in the Highlands of Scotland, Alchemy Plus is widely regarded as one of Scotland’s most progressive IT businesses.

Alchemy Plus is awaiting detailed planning consent to build Scotland’s most advanced shared services computing centre in the Highland capital. The centre, scheduled to open by early 2011 will offer secure data centre services to both private and public sector clients enabling businesses of all sizes to benefit from sourcing all their IT services on a “pay as you go” basis. The move heralds a new industry for the Highlands, which is acknowledged as an ideal location for large computing facilities because of its climate, access to renewable energy sources and relative security.

The Highland data centre will initially house 300 racks with average power availability of 8kW per rack and maximum power of 20kW. Alchemy Plus intends to transmit waste heat from the high density facility to warm neighbouring parts of the Inverness Harbour development - making the facility one of the most energy efficient and eco-friendly to be built.

Steve currently sits on sit on the current Microsoft Executive Partner Forum for Scotland. The remit of the group is to help shape Microsoft’s engagement with its Scottish stakeholders across all sectors.

He is a career Executive with over 20 year’s international experience, predominantly in oil and gas and latterly IT. He has held numerous Board level positions in both private and publicly quoted companies. Organisations he has managed have won awards for fast growth, exports and technical innovation.

In addition to his Directorship of Alchemy Plus he holds various Board positions in both business research and management consultancy companies as well as a number of not for profit / charitable organisations.
Fabrice Coquio, Managing Director, Interxion France
Fabrice Coquio joined Interxion in October 1999. He has been Managing Director of Interxion France since the opening of the subsidiary in France in October 1999. He holds a Masters degree in business law and tax law and graduated from ESLSCA. He began his career in 1987 at Anatel as Director of Marketing and Sales. Then he joined Sagem in 1988 where he was Sales Manager for Africa, the Export Manager for Europe and Asia before being appointed in 1996 as head of the UK subsidiary which he launched.
Rob Coupland, COO, TelecityGroup
Rob is Chief Operating Officer at TelecityGroup, responsible for the operational aspects of the business, including overall management and delivery of the new build programme, systems strategy and business development. He has over fifteen years' experience in the telecommunications and technology sector. Prior to joining TelecityGroup in early 2007, Rob was Head of Product Marketing at NTL Business where he was responsible for the entire business services portfolio. Before joining NTL Rob spent 12 years at Cable & Wireless in senior product management roles with a particular focus on business networks, hosting and convergence markets.
Ashley R. Davis, Managing Director, Datacenter Strategy, JPMorgan Chase
Ashley Davis is a Managing Director with JPMorgan Chase. Ashley is responsible for the firms Datacenter strategy and their global technology sustainability program. Ashley has an MSc in Intelligent Building Design, awarded in 2005 from Reading University. Ashley is also a Chartered Engineer and a fellow of the IET. Prior to joining JPMC, Ashley was Managing Director with CS Technology, a specialist consultancy in the design and operation of Mission Critical Facilities. Ashley has held senior management positions with Deutsche Bank and Morgan Stanley.
Rien Dijkstra, independent consultant and formerly Senior Advisor to CIO, Dutch Railways
Rien is an innovative technology professional with over 20 years of combined experience delivering results in various IT positions in different governmental and non-governmental organizations. He has been acting as senior advisor of the CIO of Dutch Railways (Nederlandse Spoorwegen) and is co-creator of the 2010 IT vision of Dutch Railways. He has a broad and longstanding experience in IT (services) in different roles and functions.

The first years of his career he was mainly involved in software development. Later on his focus shifted to consultancy where he spent his attention to a lot of different IT subjects.

The past years he focused on developing and giving guidance to IT enterprise strategies. He was a former member of the CIO Office of Dutch Railways where he was working as an Enterprise Architect. In that role he was responsible for a digital movement of one of the data centers of Dutch Railways by using virtualization technology and resulting in a 80% server reduction.

He is currently working as a independent consultant.
Pieter Duijves, Managing Director, Parthenon Data Centres BV
In 2008 Pieter Duijves founded Parthenon Data Centres together with Kevin Burton. Parthenon is specialized in developing highly sustainable datacenters. Before he worked at Global Crossing where he was responsible for the engineering and construction of the European network, including 43 datacenters in 16 countries. From 2004 thru 2007 he was the Managing Director Europe for Global Crossing. He worked for Philips, AT&T Bell Labs and Lucent in several research and management roles, latest being Director of the Optical Networking Business Unit. He lived and worked in the Netherlands, Belgium, England and the United States. He holds a masters degree of the Technical University Delft and followed an MBA at Washington University. He holds two US patents.
M Christian Estrosi, Minister for Industry, France
Christian Estrosi, 54 ans, député-maire de Nice, a été nommé ministre chargé de l’Industrie auprès de la ministre de l’Économie, de l’industrie et de l’emploi.

Entré tôt en politique, il a été élu une première fois en 1983 au conseil municipal de Nice et deux ans plus tard au conseil général des Alpes Maritimes, dont il est alors le benjamin – comme il le sera à l’Assemblée nationale, où le suffrage populaire le porte en 1988.

De 1992 à 1998 et de 2001 à 2003, il est premier vice-président du conseil régional de Provence - Alpes - Côte d’Azur. De 2003 à 2008, il préside le conseil général des Alpes-Maritimes. Il fait partie en 2005 du gouvernement de Dominique de Villepin comme ministre délégué à l’Aménagement du territoire où il met en place les pôles de compétitivité, puis de 2007 à mars 2008, il est, dans le gouvernement de François Fillon, secrétaire d’État chargé de l’Outre Mer. Depuis le 16 mars 2008, il est maire de Nice. Ancien sportif de haut niveau, Christian Estrosi a également été champion de France de moto (750cm3) en 1975, 1976, 1977 et 1979.
Steve Campbell
Steve Campbell-Ferguson, Associate Director, Arup
Steve is an outstanding Chartered Mechanical Engineer within Arup’s International Mission Critical team. He manages large Data Centre projects across multiple European locations currently from Arup’s Solihull, UK Office. In the past Steve worked for 4 years in Arup’s Moscow Office as Commercial Projects Business Area Manager and M&E Team leader.

Working throughout Europe and Russia has given Steve a valuable combination of both local knowledge and international project management experience. The management of large design teams, located in multiple locations and liaison with multiple client, contractor and third party stakeholders is all part of his role.

Steve has a proven track record of successfully taking designs from the drawing board and making them reality.

Anthony Foy, Group Managing Director, Interxion
Anthony Foy has responsibility for the overall strategic development of the company’s sales and country operations, which are spread across 25 data centres in 11 European countries. His background is in multinational sales management and business development. Before joining Interxion, he was Senior Vice President and General Manager International with Broadbase Software (now Kana Software), where he built the company’s international operations, sales and marketing infrastructure across Europe, Asia and South America and was instrumental in growing the company from startup to IPO and revenues of more than $100 million. Prior to this he was Director, International Sales & Business Development with Red Brick Systems (now part of IBM) and International Sales & Marketing Manager with ATP.
David Foy, Sales Consultant, eBRC
David currently occupies the position of Sales Consultant at eBRC where he specializes in resilience services, providing clients with tailor made solutions for hosting and process outsourcing. He brings to the job over 20 years of experience in the Fund, Banking and Insurance business as I.T. Manager and has in depth experience of the technical and operational issues facing the customer. David has also authored several articles on business process outsourcing and Green IT issues.

Bernard Geoghegan, Senior Vice President of International Operations, Digital Realty Trust
Bernard has served as Senior Vice President, International since September 2008 and is the senior Digital Realty Trust officer responsible for the general management, driving activity and overseeing the growth of the international business. This includes the management and operations of Digital Realty Trust’s international portfolio. Bernard is a veteran of the IT industry with over 25 years experience in the sector. Prior to joining Digital Realty Trust, Bernard was the CEO of Servecentric Ltd., a provider of Co-location and premium Managed Services to the Irish market. Before this Bernard has held senior Operations and IT roles at Worldport and Xerox Europe and held various IT Management and Software Development roles with Pioneer Investments, Informix Software Inc., Digital Equipment Corporation and Ashton-Tate.
Stuart Hall
Stuart Hall, Data Centre Simulation Specialist, Arup
Stuart is a specialised Mechanical Engineer with a unique 11 years experience in the simulation of buildings using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). In 2003 he began to specialise in the application of these skills to Data Centres, co-authoring a BSRIA guidance publication:

“Cooling Solutions for IT - A guide to planning, design and operation”.

Stuart joined Arup in 2008 having worked previously for a market leading Data Centre engineering software company. Stuart is developing the use of state-of-the-art simulation techniques for data centres within Arup. He is determined to ensure that Arup’s International Data Centre team remain at the cutting edge of Data Centre Design.

Peter Hannaford, Vice President, Datacenters & Alliances, EMEA, APC by Schneider Electric
Peter Hannaford is responsible for developing and promoting Schneider Electric’s Datacenter Solutions, Consulting Services and Software architectures for datacenters and IT rooms throughout Europe, Middle East, & Africa.

His broad knowledge and experience of the datacenter space, gained firstly as an IT director and subsequently running companies providing turnkey solutions to IT-dependent organizations, is invaluable in ensuring that APC by Schneider Electric’s Datacenter solutions are tailored to meet the needs of today’s non-stop business.

Peter’s long career in IT spanning more than 20 years encompasses spells with financial institutions including Société Générale and Banque Arabe Internationale d’Investissement. Andrew Harriso
Andrew Harrison, Director & Group Leader, Arup
Andrew Harrison holds global responsibility for the Science and Industry business sector and Financial Services/Mission Critical business sectors across Arup. He leads a technology focussed multidisciplinary group in London.

With Andrew’s leadership the International Mission Critical team (a worldwide group of Arup professionals dedicated to Data Centre projects) is well coordinated demonstrating a track record of delivering high specification Data Centre projects on time and on budget.

Andrew is an extremely experienced mechanical engineer and has a been responsible for the design and project management of data centre, financial services, science, industrial and transportation projects in Europe, North America, Asia and the Middle East throughout his 22 years of service at Arup.

Marion Howard Healy, Associate Consultant, BroadGroup
Marion Howard-Healy is a senior associate with BroadGroup and the author of BroadGroup’s June 2010 report: “Competing in the clouds: emerging strategies for enterprise data centres.”

Marion has analysed market demand, change and business opportunities in the European communications sector for over 20 years, and has conducted single client assignments for leading service providers and IT vendors in Europe, USA and Australia. She has designed and managed international research programmes and carried out in-depth interviews with corporate IT and Business executives in over 400 organisations, as well SMEs across industry sectors. In the last five years, Marion has also worked with companies developing best practice in customer experience.

With BroadGroup, Marion has undertaken a number of projects including: demand for UK data centres, the rationale and implications of power based pricing, the need and impact of green data centres, dark fibre deployment in the UK, and local demand and connectivity in specific UK data centre locations, as well as data centre projects related to Asia Pacific region.

She has also spoken at several BroadGroup events, and is an experienced and well regarded conference presenter. Prior to the formation of BroadGroup, Marion worked with several of the BroadGroup management team as Director, Billing & CRM at Tarifica – PBI UK Ltd.
Andrew Jay, Senior Director, CB Richard Ellis
Andrew is a Senior Director within the Global Corporate Services division based in London. He is head of the EMEA Technology Practice Group which is the World’s largest data centre real estate advisory group. He is recognised as one of Europe’s leading advisors to the data centre industry and benefits from in-depth knowledge of all aspects of technical real estate including development, leasing and corporate data centre dynamics. Andrew is responsible for the unique research provided by CB Richard Ellis into the Global Carrier Neutral Data Centre market and is a regular speaker at conferences including Data Centres Europe , Data Centre Dynamics and Gartner. Recent assignments include Major projects of behalf of data centre developers include the acquisition of distressed data centres, sites for new build, leasing to end users and data centre investments on behalf of numerous clients including Digital Realty Trust and Sentrum; Major projects on behalf of occupiers have included advising on 8 of the 10 largest corporate data centre acquisitions in the UK and Europe since 2005 and structuring the technical real estate industry’s first full service lease framework agreement; Set-up and managed AT&T’s global network rollout which included the completion of 141 data centre leases in 46 countries across the world in two years. Andrew joined Richard Ellis (later to become CB Richard Ellis) in 1989 where he gained valuable experience in the City of London Development Agency and Investment teams. Following the acquisition of a regional business, Andrew transferred to the North East in 1994 where he set up Investment Agency and Telecoms Agency teams.

Since returning to London in 2000, Andrew has become a Senior Director in the Global Corporate Services team where he is head of the EMEA Technology Practice Group. He is a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors; BSc (Hons) in Urban Estate Surveying; Founder member of UK Council of Data Centre Operators.
David Jegen
David L. Jegen, Managing Director, Devonshire Investors
David Jegen is a Managing Director with Devonshire Investors, the Boston-based private equity group affiliated with Fidelity Investments. Mr. Jegen is responsible for developing new investment opportunities as well as supporting existing portfolio companies on strategic and operational improvements.

Previously, Mr. Jegen was Managing Director of the Global IT Services Segment at Cisco Systems where he led the business consulting practice for Cisco’s top outsourcing channel partners. Previously, he was Vice President of Product Strategy and Services for Into Networks (now part of Microsoft) and held earlier advisory roles with The Boston Consulting Group and J.P. Morgan & Co., where he began his career as an Associate in Latin America - Mergers & Acquisitions.

Mr. Jegen holds a juris doctor from Harvard Law School and a BS in economics and accounting from Indiana University. He serves on the Boards of Boston Coach and Sebastians and is on the Board of Overseers of the Boston Museum of Science.
Apostolos Kakkos, CEO, Lamda Hellix Data Centers
Apostolos Kakkos is the Founder of LAMDA Hellix, the first and only certified Neutral World-Class Data Center Services Provider in Greece and South Eastern Europe, established in Athens from 2001.

Under his leadership and vision, LAMDA Hellix has grown over the past few years to become a major player in South Eastern Europe, as well as setting standards/benchmarks for the region in profitability, quality and the environment. Apostolos’ efforts culminated earlier this year in the recognition of LAMDA Hellix as Europe’s Best Regional Data Centre Operator for 2009. During his career both in Greece and abroad, Apostolos has held top management positions with listed companies within the IT, Telecom and Financial Services sectors. He holds a BSc in Physics from University of Athens, a MEng in IT from University College London, a MEng in Industrial Relations & Management from London School of Economics & Political Science and has participated in numerous executive seminars including London Business School’s “Financing the Entrepreneurial Business”.
Brian Klingbeil, Managing Director EMEA, Savvis
Brian Klingbeil is the Managing Director for EMEA at Savvis, a global leader in providing IT infrastructure services, including managed hosting and cloud computing, to businesses and the government in Europe, North America and Asia. In his role, Brian oversees the company's strategic business direction and is responsible for growing Savvis’ business throughout the region. Before taking this role, Brian was the Vice President of Finance and Strategic Planning for Savvis in the US for 5 years. With over 10 years of experience in the IT and Telecommunications industry, Brian was the Vice President of Finance of GTS Telecommunications in London prior to joining Savvis and has also held key finance and planning positions at Qwest Communications in Denver, Colorado. Brian studied engineering at Miami University and holds a BS degree in Finance from The Ohio State University. Brian has particular interest and expertise in enterprise Cloud Computing having spent considerable time advising many of Savvis’ mid-large European customers on their options to migrate to Cloud-based services.
Chad Lamb, PhD, Director of Engineering, XKL
As XKL’s Director of Engineering, Dr. Chad Lamb has managed the development of XKL's DarkStar™ product line, led by the flagship DXM Optical Transport. A 12 year veteran of XKL, Dr. Lamb has been involved in all phases of research, design, and development of the XKL portfolio of products.

Prior to XKL, Dr. Lamb has had diverse and significant roles in engineering, project leadership, and consulting for HP, GE, Polaroid, Allegro Microsystems, the University of New Hampshire, and Innovative Solutions International.

Dr. Lamb received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma, his MS in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Hampshire, and his BS in Computer Engineering from Northeastern University.
Bernard Lecanu, President, BLIC Consultants
Bernard Lecanu began his professional career as a teacher after 5 years of which he joint AMP Group (now part of TYCO) where he continued for 15 years and became Division Director.

Between 1984 and 1993 he was Managing Director of different companies for the BICC Group mainly in south of Europe for components and cables activities.

He had his own company in the Information system business until 1995 and joint Siemens Group; he was appointed Managing Director for their French, Africa, South America and part of the Asia Market for OSP products.

From 2000-2002 he was Vice President International for an activity of Corning Group .In his capacity he was responsible for the Data Center market ,and launch with his team a number of Data center Projects in Europe and Middle east.

Since 2002, he is managing of consulting company BL International Consultant and specialises in the field of Access Network and Transmission, Marketing and Industrial Strategy.

Catalina McGregor, United Nations Agency ITU-T Liaison Officer to OECD and EC/EU
Mrs McGregor was named by Computer Weekly as one of the most significant drivers of Green ICT in the western world. She is The United Nations Agency ITU T JCA Green ICT Liaison Officer to the OECD, EC and EU uniting efforts to promote and sustain International cooperation, best practice and standards. She works with a number of International climate change and environmental groups including Global Action Plan European Leaders in IT (ELIT), The US EPEAT Green Electronics Council and the UK WEEE Directive sub group for the re-use and resale of electronic goods among other interests.

She is best known in the UK as The Founder of the Chief Information Officer’s (CIO) and Chief Technology Officer’s (CTO) Green ICT Delivery Unit (GDU) in Government. She holds this post from the Ministry of Defence where she has served three consecutive appointments CIOs Office, DCSA DFN and DE&S DSA. Prior to the MoD she was Director, Central Government Departments for a Department of Trade and Industry (BIS today) initiative called The National Aggregation Board (NAB). She has a comprehensive private sector IT background and was formerly Head of e-business and e-commerce for Richemont Luxury Group owners of a vast international investment portfolio.

Greg is an extremely talented electrical engineer working within Arup’s International Mission Critical Team from London, UK. He is experienced in major mission critical facility design projects and is focussed on high-resilience data centres.

Greg specialises in on-site generation, high-voltage distribution, heavy current low-voltage distribution and uninterruptible power supplies. He has specialist knowledge and experience in generator controls, switching automation electrical protection and Tier ratings.

He is interested in energy policy and electricity markets, especially distributed generation policy and regulation and the implications for electricity networks.

Greg’s dedication to the industry was demonstrated in 2008 when he was awarded the title “Young Mission Critical Engineer of the Year” at the Datacenter Dynamics Awards 2008.

Dr. Bruno Michel, Manager Advanced Thermal Packaging, IBM Research - Zurich
Bruno Michel has a Ph.D. degree in bio­chemistry/biophysics and joined the IBM Zurich Research Laboratory in 1988 to work on scanning probe microscopy and then managed a large interdisciplinary project on nanopatterning. In 2003 Dr. Michel started the Advanced Thermal Packaging group to create improved thermal interfaces and better miniatur­ized convective cooling for which he and his coworkers were awarded the Harvey Rosten Award for excellence in thermal sciences. Main current research topics of the Zurich group are microfluidics for nature inspired miniaturized tree-like hierarchical supply networks, 3D packaging, and thermophysics to improve heat transfer in nanostructures. With the high-performance coolers and the 3D stacked chips with interlayer cooling he contributes to improved efficiency and energy re-use in future green data centres.

Michael is Global Head of Enterprise Technology Operations for Morgan Stanley. His responsibilities include Datacenter strategy and Implementation, Global Production Operations, and Enterprise Infrastructure for Europe.

Michael’s career has covered many of Morgan Stanley’s business lines including Equity, Fixed Income, and Banking. Michael has wide international experience having held key roles in Tokyo, New York and London.

Eric Schwartz, President, Equinix Europe
Eric Schwartz joined Equinix in 2006 and has played various senior-level management roles with the company. He spearheaded Equinix’s expansion to Europe – including the 2007 acquisition of IXEurope – and the ongoing integration of Equinix’s European operations into its global business. As President of Equinix Europe, Mr. Schwartz oversees the management, strategy, and growth for Equinix in Europe.

Mr. Schwartz came to Equinix from BellSouth where he was Vice President of IP Communications and led the development and implementation of advanced technologies including VoIP. Prior to joining BellSouth, he was Executive Vice President of Harold A. Dawson Company, an Atlanta-based real estate development company. Mr. Schwartz also is a former member of McKinsey & Co., where he consulted with telecommunications and financial services companies in the United States. and Asia on strategic issues.

Mr. Schwartz earned an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and was an undergraduate at Stanford University where he earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and a B.A. in Economics.
Roy Shelton, Managing Director, H20 Networks
Roy, an MBA Graduate is a seasoned senior executive and is currently responsible for leading the rapidly expanding H2o Networks dark fibre telecommunications infrastructure business.

Roy has a wealth of experience in his field having previously held global positions in large telecommunications and technology companies. Prior to joining with H2o Networks (part of the i3 Group) Roy was Vice President of sales in EMEA for Azure Solutions (a BT Company), Vice President of global sales for Prime Carrier and CEO of Next2Friends.com.

Michael Tobin, CEO, TelecityGroup
Michael Tobin is the Chief Executive Officer of TelecityGroup. Mr Tobin joined Redbus Interhouse in 2002 as Sales and Marketing Director and became Chief Executive Officer in 2003, leading the company through its integration with TeleCity, the subsequent acquisition of Globix in 2006 and the successful IPO of the Group in 2007. He has more than 25 years’ experience in the telecommunications and technology sector. Prior to TelecityGroup, he headed-up Fujitsu’s e-Commerce operations in Germany and before that ran ICL’s Danish outsourcing subsidiary out of Copenhagen. He has also held senior positions based in Paris for over 11 years including International Computer Group and Tricord Systems Europe, and was formerly Managing Director of Goupil UK. Mr Tobin is Chairman of the Friends of The Loomba Trust, a charity which provides education and aid for children of poor widows in India. Mr Tobin is also a board member of Byte Night which raises money for the charity Action for Children. He is also a non-executive director of Think London, the London Development Agency funded organisation for inward investment into the capital. Torsten Thiele, Head of Telecoms, Project & Infrastructure Finance, Capital Markets, Investec Bank plc
Since 2006 Torsten is Head of Telecoms, Project and Infrastructure Finance at Investec Bank plc, the FTSE-100 specialist international bank. He focuses on advising, arranging and funding for telecommunications projects and companies. Recent transactions focussed on debt financings for fixed and mobile operators and related infrastructure in Europe, Africa and the USA, and include equity investments in technology companies. Infrastructure Journal lists Investec for 2009 as one of the top 10 lead arrangers of telecoms project finance globally.

From 2000-2006 Torsten was Senior Director at CIT in Communications Finance, providing capital expenditure and acquisition financing across Europe, including for data centres. From 1998-2000 Torsten was a Director at Bankgesellschaft Berlin, responsible for telecommunications project finance, with a global portfolio of over 60 transactions.

In roles with Communications Equity Associates, Wasserstein Perella and PHB, Torsten advised corporate clients and public bodies across Europe on strategy and specific transactions. As a Principal Banker at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Torsten at its launch he was involved in major privatisations in Russia and Eastern Europe. He began his finance career at JP Morgan in 1987 in capital markets.

Torsten holds an MPA from the Harvard Kennedy School as well as degrees in economics and in law from Bonn University.
Joe Trainor, Director, Offer Management, Content Services, European Markets Group, Level 3 Communications
Joe Trainor is responsible for executing the go to market strategy for the Level 3 suite of CDN services in Europe. His role is to evangelise the key values of the Level 3 propositions to the market as well as work with the Level 3 product team to deliver the future product set that the market needs to deliver success online.

Trainor has dedicated his career to driving video across IP. With 10 years experience in the industry, he has been engaged in the early adoption of online video, to the modern technical achievements of delivering High Definition video online. An engineering background and 14 years commercial and managerial experience has given him a unique perspective on the trends and commercial future of video online.

Prior joining Level 3 in 2008, Joe built commercial success in pioneering start-ups like Narrowstep and Virtue Broadcasting, where he was instrumental in developing the business from start-up to public listing both in the UK and the US.

His goal at Level 3 is to show how a network company can ‘Broadcast enable the Internet’ and deliver the quality and scale that broadcasters and content owners need to commercialise this space. Joe is based in London.

Laurent Vernerey is Executive Vice President, IT Business, Schneider Electric. In 2007, Schneider Electric acquired APC and formed the Critical Power and Cooling Services (CPCS) Business Unit, which includes the APC and MGE UPS Systems brands. The CPCS Business Unit reported revenue of $3.5 billion in 2007 and employs 12,000 people worldwide. Schneider Electric, with 112,000 employees and operations in 190 countries, had 2007 annual sales of $25 billion (€17.3 billion).

From July 2003 until taking the lead of APC and the Critical Power and Cooling Services business unit in February 2007, Laurent served as Managing Director of Schneider Electric's Pacific Zone. Laurent took this role after three years with Schneider Electric's parent company in France, most recently as Senior Vice President, Manufacturing and Logistics. Prior to this position, he was Vice President, Low Voltage Power Activity (ABT).

Laurent has been associated with Schneider Electric and its products since 1985, when he joined the firm through its acquisition of Telemecanique. Later, he held positions at several key Schneider Electric businesses including Merlin Gerin and Square D USA. With more than 19 years of experience as a technology analyst specialising in the worldwide telecommunications markets, he spent six years as a principal analyst at Gartner Group, tracking the voice, data and IP services markets for the carrier, vendor and financial communities. Steve's career is rooted firmly in analysis. He has worked at 451.com, and earlier at the Northern Business Information division of McGraw-Hill, where he managed the European research team. Prior to this, he was Research Manager of the Telematica programme owned by Logica. He has also worked for IDC in Australia and for IBM's marketing department. Guy Willner, Chairman, Data Gardens, Russia
Guy is currently Non Executive Director at Teracothe first provider of vendor neutral Data Centres in South Africa.

Guy worked for Vivendi Group from 1992 to 1998 both in the UK and in Hungary to establish a telecoms operator culminating in a $210million EBRD funding. Willner began his career with Philips NV in Paris working in CDROM, Smart Card and telematics technologies. Guy holds a BScHons Engineering at Oxford Brookes University. He was a co-founder of European-based carrier-neutral data centre company IXEurope, which was bought by US group Equinix in 2007, in a $482 million deal.

Willner, 45, has more than 15 years of senior leadership experience in hi-tech companies. He founded UK-based colocation provider IXEurope in 1998, forging strategic relationships with key accounts as the company's turnover grew over 600% in the first three years. His leadership team grew IXEurope into a London Stock Exchange-listed business, operating 14 large-scale data centres in four countries, before it was bought by Nasdaq-listed Equinix. Equinix is the largest global operator of network-neutral data centres and Internet exchange services. Willner served in a non-excutive role and as president of Equinix Europe until June 2008 and March 2009 respectively.
Roy Zeighami, UCS Power and Cooling TME, CISCO
Roy Zeighami is a power and cooling architect with Cisco. His responsibilities include driving energy efficiency efforts on Cisco’s Unified Computing System (UCS) server platforms. Roy has over ten years of experience working on thermal design and architecture for electronics. He holds MS degrees in both Electrical and Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University and has over 20 patents in thermal design and power architecture for computing systems.
