  • IXEurope Connects Switzerland?s Internet Exchange Points

    IXEurope has announced significant upgrades to Switzerland's internet exchange. The new infrastructure incorporates Ethernet connectivity between the two premier internet exchange points (TiX and CiXP) and an upgrade between the two CiXP locations. CiXP is the internet exchange point for the Geneva area and is available from CERN (The world's largest particle physics laboratory) and IXEurope's Geneva IXDatacentre. IXEurope has upgraded the infrastructure between these two locations with CWDM to provide 10Gb services for the Geneva area.

  • IBM Announces Investment in New Irish BCRS Facility

    IBM has announced an investment of 8.6m in a new Business Continuity and Recovery Services (BCRS) facility in Ireland, located at the company's campus in Mulhuddart, Co. Dublin. The new facility will be IBM's third such operation in the country. Industry analysts estimate that disaster recovery services are worth 15m per annum in Ireland, and growing.

  • EDS Hungary Doubles its Office Space

    Electronic Data Systems Hungary has completed a new office building and document archive at its base in Rabahidveg, thus doubling its office space. The expansion will serve EDS's regional service centre in Budapest, which was opened last year. The office area at Rabahidveg, near Hungary's border with Austria, is now 800 square metres with a 300-square-metre document archive. EDS Hungary provides its services mostly to multinationals such as General Electric and General Motors.

  • Hughes Escorts Communications Sets Up Third Internet Data Centre In India

    The company has set-up its third state-of-the-art internet data centre in India at Mumbai. The data centre will offer hosting, colocation, internet, mailing and spam protection and will be its third domestic Internet gateway in India. Hughes Escorts Communications Ltd., HECL is a joint venture between Hughes Network Systems (HNS) and Escorts Ltd. The HECL Data Centres in Gurgaon, Mumbai and Bangalore have been interconnected to each other over HECL's multi-telco backbone to provide back up sites for each other in case of emergency.

  • IBM Launches Global Service Delivery Centre in India

    IBM has recently launched a global service delivery centre (GSDC) in Bangalore, India, significantly expanding its existing operations to meet the growing market demand for IT outsourcing and management services. The centre will provide local and global clients with command centre services, including remote monitoring of servers, security operations and network operations, data centre services, including server hosting, server management and storage management, and IT help desk services.

  • Openwave Belfast Completes New Data Centre

    Software company Openwave is completing a new £750,000 data centre in Donegall Street, Belfast which is designed to act as a gateway for mobile phone operators around the world. The US based company operates in 13 countries worldwide. The company is reported to have received in the region of £860,000 funding from Invest NI over a three-year period. The new centre has been built to cope with increasing demand for mobile messaging and mobile internet services around the world.

  • Colt Wins ?80m Contract From AOK

    COLT has won a contract valued at more than 80m over five years to design and manage the nationwide data communications infrastructure for German insurance company AOK. Colt will connect AOK's 1,600 branches across Germany with a data network, consolidating its current networks and suppliers. AOK will migrate its data network to Colt in a two-year phased programme with full implementation planned for the end of 2007. Colt will also host and manage AOK's internet and e-mail infrastructure, for its 25 million members, as well as its 60,000 employees.

  • DediPower Upgrades Network Capacity with Affiniti

    DediPower has upgraded its network capacity with Affiniti, part of Kingston Communications. The direct fibre connection to Kingston's national network provides complete provider redundancy at DediPower's Cadogan House data centre. An initial 100 Megabit capacity has been provisioned providing an increase of 25% to current overall capacity, and can be upgraded to Gigabit speeds at short notice if required. In addition, DediPower customers requiring telecommunications services (such as ISDN and leased lines) now have the option of three providers: BT, Kingston and NTL.

  • Yahoo! Looking to Build New Data Centre?

    Reports are circulating that Yahoo! Inc. is looking to build a new data centre facility within the Colombia Basin. A long-term service commitment from the Grant County Public Utility District is apparently being sought for use of the utility's Zipp fiber optic network, a communication system the PUD developed to provide broadband access to the residents of Grant County. One report suggested that Yahoo would require about 15-20 megawatts of power from the PUD to operate and the new facility would staff about 40 employees.

  • Peak 10 Adds Second Charlotte Data Centre

    Peak 10, the Southeast's (US) leading data center operator and managed services provider, has announced plans to build a second data center at its headquarters in Charlotte, N.C. As a result of the expansion, Peak 10 will own and operate seven world-class data centers spread throughout the Southeast. The building of Peak 10's second Charlotte data center follows successful expansions in its Raleigh, N.C. and Louisville, Ky. markets earlier this year.

    DataPipe has acquired data center space and expanded its sales and support teams into Hong Kong, China. this is in response to the growing demand from its clients for customized, cost-effective solutions that improve efficiency and value across the enterprise. By opening a facility in Hong Kong, DataPipe can now extend direct support to its customers and partners in the Pacific Rim. The Hong Kong expansion follows the 2002 establishment of DataPipe Europe based in London, UK. The company expects continued momentum internationally.
