  • TelecityGroup Reaffirms European Data Centre Expansion Plans Are On Target In Amsterdam

    Carrier neutral Pan-European Data Centre company Telecity Group has made a pre-closed period statement (ahead of their end of year 2007 results being prepared) which will be announced in March 2008. The company has confirmed that its new Amsterdam Data Centre (Amsterdam 4) has received final planning permission with the first phase of the development expected to be ready for customer service in March 2008. The first phase of the company's new London Powergate Data Centre facility is due to be ready for customer service by the 2nd quarter of 2008.

    Managed hosting provider DediPower, has secured a second data centre to cope with rapidly growing demand for its range of managed hosting solutions which include dedicated servers, application and exchange hosting, high availability multi-server clusters and co-location. The new 11000 sq. ft tier 3 data centre located in Reading, UK enables companies the flexibility of future expansion whilst protecting access to their information.

  • Colt Telecom Opens New London Data Centre And 2nd Facility In Amsterdam

    COLT Telecom has opened their third London Data Centre for customer service. The new Data Centre is the largest opened by COLT to date with a total raised floor area of 8,600 square metres and is the 18th Data Centre. It is located outside the London M25 ring road, and is being used by a large financial services client as a business continuity site. The Data Centre also provides free air cooling, whereby outside cold air is used to cool the heat within the facility and has a dedicated 25MVA power feed from the National Grid. The company has also opened its second Data Centre in Amsterdam.

    KPN and Borchveste are constructing the fifth largest KPN CyberCenter in Almere. Space will expand considerably from with initial 5000 m2 date floor. The facility is planned to open 1 November 2008 and will have a capacity of more than 20,000 Watt and offer high-density services and managed ICT for its business customers.

    Irish carrier neutral Data Centre provider Data Electronics has announced a Euro 25 million expansion plan to add up to 60,000 square feet (approx. 5,574 square metres) of space to its existing West Dublin Data Centre at Ballycoolin. The new facility is scheduled to open in mid-2008, and when complete will have 100,000 square feet of space (9,290 square metres).

By the end of 2007 the company will have spent around USD 5 million on the purchase of the lease and assets of the Singapore Data Centre. When completed in 2008 along with other US Data Centres already being built Savvis will have a total of 31 Data Centres in operation worldwide with total capacity of 1.45 million square feet (approx. 135,000 square metres) of space.

    US-based IT services company Unisys has completed its extension to an existing Data Centre in Eagen, Minnesota which accommodates its clients in the public, financial services and transportation sectors. To extend the Data Centre Unisys claims that it re-cycled more than 150,000 pounds of building materials in the construction, including carpet, ceiling tiles, conduit and wiring.

  • Nokia Siemens Networks Will Build And Operate Greenfield GSM Network In Bihar

    Nokia Siemens Networks has won a US$150 million contract from IDEA Cellular Limited, an Indian GSM mobile services provider and an Aditya Birla Group company, to build and provide managed services for a Greenfield GSM network in Bihar. The three year contract includes supply of GSM / GPRS and Short Message Service Center (SMSC) equipment, network implementation, roll out project management, service for third party products and managed services.

  • Web Hosting Provider Softlayer Offers Virtual Dedicated Rack Option Across US

    US-based web hosting provider SoftLayer has opened its new facility in Seattle which is connected to its Dallas Data Centre and is able to provide what it calls a cross-Data Centre capability. This allows a SoftLayer web hosting customer to be able to select his geographical server location in real time either in Seattle or Dallas or in allocate applications between the two Data Centres. The customer can select the servers to be purchased in each location and place them in his own Virtual Dedicated Rack.

  • E-Shelter Open First Phase Of New Berlin Data Centre

    German carrier neutral Data Centre provider E-Shelter has opened the first phase of its new 15,000 square metre Berlin Data Centre for customer service. The company reports that 60 per cent of the first phase build out has already been pre-sold. E-Shelter intends to develop a new Data Centre facility in its existing Frankfurt campus later in 2008 which will have total space of 7,500 square metres. When the proposed facility is complete E-Shelter will have some 67,500 square metres of space in the Frankfurt area alone.

  • Walsall Gigaport Planned

    Proposals in a planning application have been unveiled to create 'Walsall Gigaport' a technology platform to attract new industries to the region and help deliver a strategically important 'office corridor' to the area located in the north west of Birmingham. Walsall Regeneration Company (WRC) is driving the GBP 400 million, 1.7 million sq ft scheme. Phase one costing some GBP 80 million plans for a Walsall hub data centre to act as the focus for the development and co-location of IT-based industries and provide national and international connectivity.

  • Data Centre Park Planned For Cambridgeshire

    Developers Lasercharm are planning to build a data centre park at the Elean Business Park in Cambridgeshire. The buildings, ranging in size from 50,000 square feet to 100,000 square feet and cover a total of 650,000 square feet. Planning permission was granted on the site in August 2003 to previous owners for a 2.2 million square feet data centre. But the new buildings will cover a third of the size and exhibitions of the plans will take place in Sutton and Mepal in January. If planning permission is granted work could start on the centre in the spring.

The site encompasses over 15,000 square feet of space, including over 7,500 square foot of raised floor Turn-Key Datacenter space, with adjoining shell space for expansion.

  • Equinix To Expand Its Hong Kong And Singapore IBX Centers

    Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX), a leading provider of network-neutral data centers and Internet exchange services, has announced plans to expand its Hong Kong Internet Business Exchange (IBX) center by more than 80 percent and commence the third expansion of its Singapore IBX center. The expansions are being driven by significant demand growth from existing Equinix customers as well as from other businesses in the Asia-Pacific market. The Equinix Hong Kong IBX is located in the Kowloon Peninsula and currently comprises approximately 3,550 square meters (38,000 gross sq. ft.).

  • Interactive Data Offers Colocation For Customers

    Interactive Data has launched a low latency co-location facility to facilitate its PlusFeed service. Customers in Europe will have the option of co-locating their applications in data centres close to the new London-based ticker plant to take advantage of the low latency delivery of European data. The company responded to the need for lower latency data, combined with the higher data volumes expected under MiFID and other regulations.

  • Global Switch To Expand Paris Data Centre Facility

    Carrier Neutral Data Centre provider Global Switch has announced that it is to open a second Data Centre at Clichy in Paris, on the same site as the current Data Centre. The company's existing Paris facility - which was opened in 2001 - with 16,000 square metres of usable space - is currently fully occupied. Now Global Switch intends to open a second Data Centre of 8,000 square metres on the same site. The new Data Centre will be designated a High Environmental Quality building.

  • New Data Centre In Vietnam

    Quang Trung Software City (QTSC) and Dot VN Ltd will jointly establish an internet data centre (IDC) in Vietnam. The 1,000sq.m centre would offer hosting and backup services to such major clients as government agencies, multinationals, financial groups and banks. The centre would also provide internet data, voice and video services as well as cutting-edge business and infrastructure applications. As scheduled, the centre will come into operation in October 2008, serving 2,500-3,000 host computers during its first construction phase, estimated to cost USD 6-15 million.

    IBM has launched its Work Area Recovery Centre in NaviMumbai, India. The Work Area Recovery Centre provides Business Continuity services for the contact centre operations of companies that operate in the financial services and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sectors. The Centre consists of total space of 25,000 square feet with 2,500 seats which can be scaled up to 3,500 seats. Facilities can be adopted to cater for trading floor, back office or call centre services and are designed to be deployed quickly in the event of a service interruption at a client's main site.

  • Former LG Plant May Be Converted To Data Centre

    The Welsh assembly government intends to kick-start the revival of the former LG semi-conductor plant, which costs £600,000 public money a year to maintain. The proposal is to turn it into a computer data centre. If consent for redevelopment is given by councillors, the factory could be used by private companies. An assembly government spokesman said the redevelopment would meet a growing demand for data centres. A planning application for the redevelopment of the site has been submitted by the assembly Government to Newport city council.

  • Google Data Centre Rumoured For Lithuania

    Google Inc is reported to be considering building a data centre in Lithuania (Source: Business daily Verslozinios). The government has proposed locating the centre near a hydro power plant in Kaisiadoriu district, central Lithuania, and the negotiations over investment were reportedly to be closed soon. The Lithuanian development agency, which is in charge of negotiating with potential investors, declined to comment on the article.

  • Indian Government Plans New Data Centres

    The Indian government has approved a scheme for establishing data centres across states and union territories as a part of the national e-governance plan. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved the scheme under which data centres will be set up with technical and financial support from the Centre. The scheme has an outlay of Rs1,623.2 crore, which includes both capital and operational expenses, for a period of five years, an official statement said.

  • Eircom Announce Spend Of ?100m On New Data Centre

    Ireland's former fixed line monopoly eircom has announced plans to invest more than 100 million (USD147.7 million) in a new 125,000sq ft data centre in Clonshaugh, north Dublin, that is due to open in July this year. The operator says it has agreed a contract with real estate firm Digital Realty Trust. The next generation data centre will provide enterprise and business-focused services, particularly managed service solutions.

  • UK Grid Launches New Data Centre In Manchester

    UK Grid has announced an opening date of the 31st March 2008 for its new 7000sqft facility on Manchester Science Park, the data centre capital of the North of the UK. One Synergy House, as the facility is known, will provide tier II world business class data centre space to alleviate the shortage of such facilities in the North of the UK owing to a migration trend of companies moving their colocation from London due to space and power shortages, price rises and exposure to terrorist threats.

  • LambdaNet to Expand Data Centres

    LambdaNet is about to expand its German data centers and in addition two new data centers will be added to the existing 24 LambdaNet-owned ones. This capacity upgrade became necessary due to the excellent utilization of the existing data centers. The second data center in Munich, also located at Arnulfstrasse, will be completed by the end of February 2008, adding some 450 square meters to the existing 450 square meters being available to LambdaNet customers. The two sites are just 250 meters apart and redundantly connected by means of dedicated fiber using two separate paths.
