IBM is to build a green data centre for Australia's Victoria University. The single data centre will be designed to serve 11 campuses and will use a modular design to allow the university to minimize energy demand and save up to A$300k over the next ten years.

Lockerbie Data Centres, a subsidiary company of Robison and Davidson (Holdings), lodged an outline planning application for a 250,000 sq ft internet data centre, business park, and a 750-homes sustainable village at Peelhouses near Lockerbie. The company claims it will be an ?800 million project over 10 years which will create up to 1,000 permanent jobs on site and a similar number of construction jobs.

Bhd's i-City has launched Data Centre Park, one of the largest data centre space providers in a single location in Malaysia. Data centres represent one of the fastest growing segments in Malaysia's information and communications technology industry. Demand for data centre services in Malaysia is forecast to be worth more than US$150mil. Data centre capacity in the region is forecast to increase by 68% by 2013 and the government is encouraging the private sector to participate actively in the cybercentre development.

Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX), a provider of global data center services, has announced the opening of the second phase expansion of its New York-4 (NY4) International Business Exchange (IBX) data center in Secaucus, NJ. ACTIV Financial, a leading provider of market data content and technologies, and next-generation displayed markets provider Direct Edge will be among the initial customers of the $82 million expansion, which will add 1,100 cabinets of capacity to Equinix's data center footprint.

Interxion, a leading European operator of carrier-neutral data centres, is expanding the capacity of its Copenhagen centre in order to meet growing customer demand for high-power-density colocation infrastructure. The new 1,000 m2 of equipped space will be ready for customers from May 2009 and will give access to the data centre's 10 megawatt power supply, supporting exceptionally high-density power configurations of up to 17.5 kW per cabinet.
