Local media reports that Disney Worldwide Services have bought land at the T5 data centre park near Ingles, Cleveland County, North Carolina. The reports state that a deed filed with Cleveland County dated May 24 indicates Disney Worldwide Services, Inc. purchased 26 acres of land at the T5 data centre park near Ingles.

On Tuesday, city council agreed seeking two grants, totalling US$60,000, to help make Project Roosevelt a reality. Some say Project Roosevelt, which city and county officials have said is a data centre project, is in fact an alias for the Disney data centre.

Prithvi Information Solutions, the Hyderabad based Information and Communication Technology Company has bagged the Mizoram State Data Center. Prithvi won this INR 12.5 crore project by competing with the players like Reliance, HCL, TCS and Sify.

The state-of-art project is primarily for the design, site preparation, supply, installation, commissioning, maintenance and operations of the State Data Center at Aizawl, Mizoram. The initial build phase of this SDC is expected to be completed in six months time.

Developers have submitted two planning applications for a flashpoint site in Huddersfield. Miller Homes this week asked for permission to build 300 homes on land between Cowrakes Road and Weather Hill Road on Lindley Moor. And Stirling Scotfield has resubmitted its application for a data centre on the corner of Lindley Moor Road and Crosland Road.

DBSi, the Pennsylvania-based provider of disaster recovery, managed hosting, and data centre services, has deployed optical networking equipment from Ekinops to connect its three data centres, maximizing network capacity and availability for their clients’ mission-critical data.

The DBSi network uses DWDM equipment from Ekinops to provide numerous data-carrying channels over the fibre linking its existing data centres in Bethlehem and Valley Forge to the newest facility in Breinigsville, Pennsylvania.

PPL, working through the permitting process, will develop a 115,000 sq ft data and operations centre in Upper Macungie Township. If all goes smoothly, ground will break in the fall.

The centre will be built on a 12-acre site near Route 100 and Interstate 78, about 10 miles west of PPL's international headquarters in downtown Allentown. Completion is pencilled for late 2012.

Google officials are moving forward with a US$600 million data centre project in Pryor that’s expected to bring in dozens of jobs to the state. Google will eventually employ 100 at the facility in the MidAmerica Industrial Park, Matt Dunne, a spokesman for Google, said.

Cisco has announced that it has developed the ICT master plan for the Jazan Economic City, a 100-million sq m "smart city" project on the Red Sea. The Cisco team worked alongside JEC developers Malaysian MMC and the Saudi Bin Laden Group to create the network architecture plan that will connect the city and provide smart services.

Telstra is set to build a new 2000 sq m data centre in Melbourne as part of its A$800 million, five-year Cloud services agenda. The expenditure will also include modernising the facilities at existing Telstra data centres in Sydney and Melbourne, expanding the telco’s enterprise applications, launching an online partner portal, and enhancing T-Suite software-as-a-service capabilities.

Telstra's chief operations officer, Brendon Riley, said the new Melbourne facility will increase its data centre capability by more than 40% and provide Cloud requirements for "many years to come".

As its endowment rises and its finances stabilize, Princeton University has borrowed US$250 million to fund construction, renovation and maintenance projects.

The new funds will finance a data centre under construction, the Andlinger Center for the Energy and Environment and a pair of adjoining buildings for neuroscience and psychology studies on the Princeton campus designed by Madrid-based José Rafael Moneo Arquitecto, Kent said.

Schneider Electric, a global specialist in energy management, has announced the successful installation of the first Tier IV data centre with Saudi Telecom Company (STC) - the national provider of telecommunication services in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Seattle-based Sabey Data Center Properties has announced plans to build a 490,000-sq ft data centre campus on 38 acres of raw land it has acquired in the heart of Northern Virginia’s data centre corridor. Developer Highbridge Properties has started demolishing the former Atmel semiconductor wafer fabrication plant at Cobalt Park in North Shields. The Atmel site, previously Siemens, is being cleared to make way for the construction of the second of three new data centres planned for the business park. StrataScale has announced its expansion into a data centre building, owned and operated by its parent company in Northern Virginia. The company has been making marked progress in North California and the data centre addition is the latest accomplishment based on StrataScale’s sales projections and corporate goals.

Yael Maguire, part of Facebook’s Open Compute Project team has revealed that following extensive testing at their Prineville, Oregon facility, Facebook has will run a higher server-inlet temperature in a bid to reduce its data centre energy usage. He reported that the temperature in the data centre will be raised from 27C to nearly 30C, in addition to increasing the relative humidity from 65% to 90%.
