Equinix, a provider of global data centre services, and Switch and Data Facilities Company, a provider of network-neutral data centre and Internet exchange services, have announced that Switch and Data stockholders have voted to approve Switch and Data's merger with and into Sundance Acquisition Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Equinix.
More than 99% of votes were in favour of the merger, and the holders of more than 85% of Switch and Data's outstanding common stock participated in the vote.

IT consulting firm GlassHouse Technologies has filed for a US$75 million initial public offering, after canceling a previous attempt to go public. GlassHouse initially filed a US$100 million IPO registration with the Securities and Exchange Commission in December 2007, but pulled the plug on the IPO in March 2009 because of poor market conditions.
President Barack Obama's 2011 budget proposal flattens federal IT spending and orders federal departments to consolidate and centralise IT operations. This budget is unsparing in its criticisms and says federal IT departments have a history of not delivering productivity and performance gains "that are found when IT is deployed effectively in the private sector."

Aegis Data Store has announced the launch of a new £45 million data centre facility in Godalming. The facility offers bespoked enterprise class hosting employing the latest thinking on energy and carbon efficiency enabling 30% reductions in energy consumption over that of a conventional data centre. The Godalming facility has been developed on the site of a former metal finishing works, providing for an ample supply of power and an ideal transformation of a former industrial site into a world class data centre.
Finland-based IT consultancy Tieto Oyj said its net profit dropped to 54.8 million euro in 2009 from 59.9 million euro in the previous year.

US technology services provider Computer Sciences Corp reported a quarterly profit ahead of analysts' projections as it benefited from demand in outsourcing amid signs that technology spending was rebounding with the improving economy.

The London Development Agency (LDA) has completed two land deals at Beam Reach 8 in Rainham to allow 60,000 sq ft of new development for data centre operators. Switch & Data Facilities , the network neutral data centre and Internet exchange services provider reported a narrow loss in the fourth quarter, boosted by a 21% increase in revenue. The Tampa, Florida-based company's net loss for the fourth quarter narrowed to US$2.1 million from US$8.5 million in the prior year quarter.

A massive data centre consolidation exercise by the UK government is set to throw up IT services projects for Indian software firms, according to John Suffolk, chief information officer of the UK government. TCS and Wipro are among the firms that are involved in designing the project, which involves consolidating 130 data centres of the UK government to between 9 and 12 centres within seven years. The consolidation would result in savings of £900 million.
The Financial Services Authority has put several contracts out to tender for new IT services worth at least £80 million. The regulator has issued seven two-year contracts for IT services under its technology strategic outsourcing framework agreement, which could see a maximum spend of £160 million.
The tender includes contracts for software applications, maintenance, advice, testing, web design, infrastructure and business process outsourcing.

Mission West Properties, Inc. and CDH Consulting have announced a new data centre property in Oregon that is now available for development. Located in Ontario, Oregon, the site will support a single mission-critical data centre facility up to 300,000 square feet, or can allow for three or four smaller data centre projects. The site features substantial economic development incentives and some of the lowest power costs in the country. The Ontario property boasts some of the lowest power costs in the US at 3.03 cents per kWh with an estimated PUE of 1.4 or lower.
3i has sold its remaining 16.5% stake in listed pan European data centre operator, TelecityGroup, at a price of 345p, realizing proceeds of GBP111m. Proceeds since the company's 2007 IPO total GBP153m for 3i, generating a 5x return for the private equity firm on its original investment.
Telecity Group plc announced its audited results for the year ended 31 December 2009.Retained profit for the year was GBP34.72 million, compared to GBP25.33 million a year ago. Earnings per share were 17.6 pence, up from last year's 12.6 pence. Profit before taxation rose to GBP38.12 million from GBP20.02 million in the previous year.
Rackspace Hosting Inc has recorded net revenue for the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2009 at USD169.5 million, up 4.4% from the previous quarter and up 18.4% from the fourth quarter of 2008. The company said unfavorable changes in currency exchange rates had a minimal negative impact on fourth quarter net revenue.

NaviSite, the cloud-enabled, enterprise-class hosting, managed applications and services company, has announced the sale of its Lawson / Kronos Application Services business to Velocity Technology Solutions for US$56 million in cash. All current NaviSite Lawson / Kronos customers will be transferred to Velocity as part of the transaction. Velocity will also assume NaviSite’s lease of the Minneapolis data centre where the services are hosted, managed, and supported. The transaction is effective immediately.
Logica's profits and sales dropped last year as IT departments cut their spending, but outsourcing demand is on the up and UK sales have increased. The supplier reported a profit of £272 million, a 6% fall, on £3.7 billion worth of sales in 2009. This compared to £289 million profit on sales of £3.8 billion in 2008.
Looking forward to 2010, the company said demand for outsourcing services is strong in the private sector and governments across Europe want to outsource to meet their-cost cutting commitments.
San Diego-based Castle Access, a provider of enterprise data centre services, has said that it has received a multi-million dollar, strategic equity financing. The amount of the investment was not disclosed. The firm said the equity funding will go to increase its investments in its data centre services, and for infrastructure expansion.
Castle Access said it would provide additional information on the funding in the next 60 days. The firm says it has a 88,000 sq ft SAS 70 Type II audited facility in San Diego.
The Lincoln Electric System plans to build a US$4.8 million data centre that it may share with the City of Lincoln. The new building would serve as LES's main computing centre and as a backup for the utility's existing systems and energy operations control centre at 27th and Fairfield streets.
The new data centre would be built at LES's Rokeby Generation Station at 8000 S.W. 12th St. The utility uses the small plant to produce electricity mostly in the summer, when demand is highest.
