Technology firm ANS Group has splashed out nearly £5 million to buy a Stockport-based business which will take annual revenues at the enlarged company to more than £35 million. Alpha, which also has an office in the City of London, employs 40 staff in total and is expected to post operating profits of £500,000 for 2010 on turnover of £15 million.

IBM is targeting the US government as its next new customer for its cloud-computing services. The company has launched its new cloud environment, called the Federal Community Cloud, which will provide secure online data centres that will meet policies mandated by Vivek Kundra, the Obama Administration's chief information officer, and that will cost less than building out the federal government's own systems.
IT services provider Terremark Worldwide has posted a narrower-than-expected quarterly loss, helped by customer additions, and forecast third-quarter sales largely above market view. The company, which is seeing growth across product sets and geographies, also raised its fiscal 2011 sales view to US$350-$353 million from prior forecast of US$345-$350 million.
Lumison, the UK provider of connectivity, hosting and managed IT services, has been acquired by Bridgepoint Development Capital for an undisclosed sum. The transaction will see Bridgepoint Development Capital acquire a majority stake in the company as a first step in building a larger IT services group focussed on serving the high growth SME market.
Local media reports that Amazon.com subsidiary Vadata is buying 10 acres of land at the Port of Umatilla. The company already has built, but not occupied, a 120,000 sq ft structure at the Port of Morrow. It is intended to be a computer data centre. In August, Vadata secured35 acres more from the Port of Morrow, not far from the 60 acres on which it already built.
Economic developers in the region believe Vadata intends to build a few identical centres in the region, each with a separate power source, to provide redundancy for its computer systems.
TelecityGroup has announced further capacity expansion in the UK. In response to increasing customer demand, 3 megawatts of customer capacity will be added in the highly connected Docklands area of London and a new 3.5 MW data centre will be built in Manchester.
Pacnet, a private equity-backed undersea cable operator, said that it will spend up to US$220 million in the next two years to build a series of data centres across Asia to serve an expected explosion in demand fuelled by mobile data services.

PFH Technology Group has agreed to acquire Redstone Technology from the IT and telecoms company Redstone for £2.25 million. The sale of the Dublin-based storage and data centre business is part of AIM-quoted Redstone’s ongoing strategy of disposing of non-core assets and businesses to save costs and focus on higher-margin revenue streams.

Something called Project Roosevelt has landed in the Grant County town of Quincy, and public records show it's Dell who's behind the top-secret data center project.
According to the county Treasurer's Office, Dell Marketing paid S. Michael and Marsha A. Rodgers just over US$3.6 million for land in Quincy. Port of Quincy Commissioner Curt Morris confirmed that the land was purchased for Project Roosevelt.
REDtone International plans to invest at least RM10 million to upgrade its broadband service during the current financial year ending May 31, 2011. Group chief executive officer Zainal Amanshah said the group expects the broadband business to contribute 50 per cent to its revenue by 2015.
Zainal said that the group was also planning to expand its data centre service in the Klang Valley. "The data centre expansion plan will be revealed in the first half of next year," he said.

Green data centre start-up NEXTDC has revealed plans to list on the Australian Securities Exchange chasing a A$60 million capital injection NEXTDC chief executive Bevan Slattery said the company expected to lodge its prospectus on November 9.
Mr Slattery would seek to raise about $40m and that he would personally inject $20m in cash into the company. The deal would be underwritten by investment banks RBS Morgan and US-based Moelis & Co, he said. The funds will almost certainly be used to fund acquisitions.
Internet service provider RSAWEB has announced the acquisition of their second data centre facility, located in Cape Town, and is set to come online in late December 2010. Third quarter revenue to 30 September at Reading-based IT services company Logica was up slightly on last year at US£863 million. The company said it continued to outperform the market in outsourcing, with revenue growth of seven per cent in the third quarter and revenue up eight per cent in the year to date.
Full year revenue is expected to be at a similar level to 2009's £3.7 billion. Chief executive Andy Green said the return to growth reflected strengthened financial services demand across all markets.
Global Crossing has announced unaudited third quarter 2010 results.

Tata Communications has announced the opening of its state-of-the-art Tata Communications Exchange data centre in Singapore, built to meet the growing IT outsourcing needs of enterprises in Asia Pacific.
The six-storey data centre in Tai Seng, near Paya Lebar, is situated in the new I-Park media hub complex. Cincinnati Bell has reported lower earnings for the third quarter after higher interest costs for its US$525 million CyrusOne acquisition in June.
Net income for the three months ended Sept. 30 was US$14.5 million compared with US$27.7 million, a year ago. The company said the decline in net income stemmed from US$21 million in higher interest expenses for the acquisition of the Texas-based data centre operator.

Windstream has announced an all-cash deal to buy Hosted Solutions Acquisition of Raleigh, N.C., a move that will continue to expand the telecommunications firm's broadband business and data centres. DuPont has completed the first phase of its new data centre in New Jersey and the second phase of its ACC5 data centre development in Virginia. DuPont has launched both phases on November 1, bringing online 36.4MW of data centre capacity and expanding its portfolio by 30%.

Internap Network Services, a provider of end-to-end internet business products and services, has announced the expansion of one of its Boston-area data centres. The expansion at 50 Inner Belt in Somerville, Mass. will include approximately 7,000 sq ft of net sellable raised floor space. This is the second of Internap’s three planned expansions in this facility. The announcement comes 18 months after Internap initially opened the data centre.

China Mobile has started work on a three-year project to expand its network of data centres in the second half of 2010, with plans to build data centres in seven provinces and cities. The seven provinces and cities include Beijing, Zhejiang, Guangdong and Inner Mongolia.

Interxion has announced that it has priced a €60 million offering (the "Offering") of add-on 9.50% Senior Secured Notes due 2017 (the "Notes"). The Notes priced on November 4, 2010 at 106.5% for a yield to maturity of 8.148%. The gross proceeds of the Offering were approximately €64 million.
The net proceeds of the Offering will be used primarily for general corporate purposes, including, without limitation, capital expenditure relating to expansion of existing data centres and construction of new data centres.

Gartner is predicting a recovery in enterprise IT spending in the EMEA region, following declines in 2009 and 2010. The analyst company says that enterprise IT spending will rise 1.3% from 2010 to 2011, to reach US$795.2 billion.

PC manufacturer Dell is to acquire cloud-integrator Boomi, which produces software that brings together cloud resources with physical hardware and software. Although Dell hasn’t revealed its plans for Boomi, the cloud company’s technology, such as its AtomSphere software, could allow Dell’s customers to access files and services remotely over the internet. Dell’s move into the cloud could ultimately mean that business customers could buy or rent a Dell server package, including physical hardware, with additional capacity then easily provided through Dell’s cloud resources.

Cisco Systems posted gains in both profit and revenue for its fiscal first quarter that ended Oct. 30, despite what it called "a challenging economic environment." However, the company missed its internal projection for product orders by about US$500 million, largely because of weakness in Europe, the public sector and the cable set-top box business. Cisco forecast revenue growth of 3%-5% for the current quarter but predicted the full fiscal year 2011, ending in July 2011, would show revenue gains between 9-12% compared with the previous year.
Verizon will get hundreds of millions of dollars of tax breaks for building a data centre on Lake Road, as it requested, but a company spokesman suggested that’s still not enough to lure the giant corporation here. What Verizon really wants to see now is state regulatory relief. At a minimum, Community Affairs Director Maureen Rasp Glose said, it needs to see burial of a proposed state law targeting future profits of Verizon and a few other telecommunications providers.
euNetworks Group Limited has, announced total revenues for the third quarter of €10.3 million, up 40% from 3Q 2009 and 11% on 2Q 2010. The Group achieved €9.1 million in recurring revenues in the quarter, up 24% from 3Q 2009, with €1.2 million of one offs.

Henry Ford Health System is expanding its Rochester Hills data centre by more than 20,000 sq ft – and bringing new jobs to the area.
The data centre and an additional building on the site are now completely leased by Henry Ford for a total of 86,000 sq ft. The centre has been leased by Henry Ford since 1987. The lease is extended through 2022.
Online IT infrastructure provider PEER 1 Network Enterprises has announced its results for the three months ended September 30, 2010, reporting a 12.6% revenue increase to US$26.3 million from US$23.4 million compared to the same quarter last year, however, operating income, normalized EBITDA and net income decreased.
Compared to Q1 2010, however, operating income fell 51.3% to US$1.2 million from US$2.5 million, normalized EBITDA dropped US$6.5 million to US$6.02 million, and net income decreased to US$0.36 million from US$1.3 million.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has selected Accenture as a prime contractor for its 10-year, indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity CDC Information Management Services contract. Data centre operator Atomic Data Centers has announced the acquisition of IT services firm 1543AD. They have merged to add Microsoft Software Services to their cloud computing and data management services. Minneapolis-based 1543AD provides IT management and software development.
Atomic Data Centers, which is also headquartered in Minneapolis, currently has seven facilities, including three in Minnesota, Arizona, Georgia, Spain and Hong Kong. The company says it will also open four new data centres in 2011 in California, Texas, New York and Ohio.

Dell has cited a lack of customer demand as the reason behind its shift from container data centre fit-outs to a more flexible, modular approach. Dell has for several years provided internet giants such as Microsoft with modular data centre fit outs made up of traditional 40-foot shipping containers, but there was no shipping container to be seen in its third generation centre launched earlier this week in Adelaide.
UK Grid has announced plans for a 2,500 sq m storage facility in Manchester, which will cost £10 million. The Manchester-based firm said the site, which houses racks of digital storage space, will be carbon neutral because it has promised to offset emissions by helping a forestry project owned by its UK Grid Renewables subsidiary.
IBM is getting US$21 million from the European Union to finance development of a standard architecture for the emerging field of “cloud computing.” Computerworld reported that Big Blue will work with 15 partners – including telephone, healthcare and media companies – on the project that focuses on storage.
Cloud computing enables users to share computing and server power across networks on demand. IBM said the project will be led by its researchers in Israel. The project is called VISION Cloud, which stands for Virtualized Storage Services for the Future Internet.

"Under terms of the agreement, EMC will pay US$33.85 per share in cash in exchange for each share of Isilon for an aggregate purchase price of approximately US$2.25 billion, net of Isilon's existing cash balance," EMC said.

Fujitsu will today officially open its multi-million dollar data centre in Perth, signing up Bankwest as its first corporate customer. Fujitsu said the 8000 sq m complex provides more than 3000 sq m of highly secure (tier 3) raised floor space, including private data suites.

A 36% rise in revenues has helped cloud computing and managed hosting services company iomart Group report a 105% increase in profit after tax of £1.0 million (H1 2010: £P0.5 million squared) in its half yearly results to September 30 2010.
