Degree Controls, a start-up operation has launched Adaptivcool which claims it can reduce the utility bills associated with air conditioning large data centres by up to 30 percent. The system pinpoints hot spots inside a computer room and directs cool air from the room's air conditioner to that spot. The system also directs airflow to prevent cool air from mixing with warm air. By efficiently parcelling the cool air from the room's air conditioner, the overall amount of electricity used is less because the entire room does not have to be cooled to locker temperatures.

BladeLogic has announced that The Carphone Warehouse, the largest independent retailer of mobile communications in Europe, has selected BladeLogic as its automation platform to manage the company's server and application infrastructure.
