Aperture Research Institute Claims Data Centre Space Crisis
The Aperture Research Institute a wholly owned research subsidiary of Data Centre software firm Aperture Technologies - claims that 43% of Data Centres are running out of space and that rack power density is at an all time high. The Aperture Research Institute interviewed 100 Data Centre managers (who are responsible for around 600 Data Centres). From the survey some 90% of respondents stated that at least 75% of Data Centre space was fully allocated, and that 43% said that their Data Centre space was 90% allocated. Also up to 38% of respondents claimed that their power usage per rack was rising to an average of between 7 kW to 18 kW per rack. Some 90% of the Data Centre managers surveyed said that blade servers had been already deployed, but 74% said that only one fifth of future servers would be blades in the future. Finally some 18% of those surveyed said that they did not have the means to measure the power density of their Data Centre and did not know what the average power consumption per rack in their Data Centre was.
