Data centre achieves PUE of 1.18 with evaporative cooling

EcoCooling have announced their involvement in the cooling of an existing data centre for Manchester based M247 who were looking at ways to reduce the carbon footprint of their 500kW colocation facility. The existing facility was already using a well-managed CRAC (computer room air conditioning) based cooling system which was running at a P.U.E of 1.6, but M247 were looking for further savings in a competitive industry.

Alan Beresford managing director of EcoCooling worked closely with the M247 team to install and maintain their own evaporatively cooled retrofit solution. The new equipment was installed around the existing raised floors and CRAC system and provided a 2N total redundancy (Nb1 CREC). The new installation and control software provided by EcoCooling has recorded P.U.E's as low as 1.18
