Data centres 'ill prepared for the cloud'
Australian data centres are ill equipped for the move to cloud computing, it has been claimed. A report from Frost & Sullivan, Not All Data Centres are Equal, which was commissioned by Macquarie Telecom, highlighted that the shift towards the cloud and virtualisation technologies can create problems as well as solving them.
"Although significant changes in IT equipment and technology such as servers are occurring, the underlying infrastructure in most data centres is often not keeping pace with these developments. In many cases, key components of the data centre infrastructure, such as power and cooling systems, are still outdated," it stated.
