EMC second quarter net up 19% on strong revenue
EMC second-quarter earnings rose 19% as the data-storage provider saw revenue rise amid growing use of cloud-based technology.
EMC -which sells data-centre products such as storage security and also provides security products and virtualization software through its majority ownership in VMware, has posted strong results of late as customers seek efficient ways to store and access massive amounts of documents and media. The company largely has avoided softness in technology spending in part because of its exposure to cloud computing and virtualization, which make data centres more efficient. EMC reported a profit of US$650 million, up from US$546.5 million a year earlier.
