Enterprises not ready for cloud

Cloud computing may be ready for the enterprise, but the feeling is not mutual among businesses. So claims a report from research firm Forrester, which highlights that many organisations are not ready to take advantage of all the benefits cloud brings. The stability of cloud services has much improved over the past four years, according to the report’s author James Staten, an infrastructure principal analyst at Forrester. In 2008, most cloud vendors didn’t provide availability assurances, he said. However, today, nearly every cloud service provides a well- ocumented SLA around the availability of its service.

“Some provide guarantees of up to five 9s of uptime, and performance guarantees are also starting to show up,” said Staten. He added that most corporate IT shops aren’t well equipped to respond with speed that cloud computing and the new business environment brings.
