Equinix, a provider of global data centre services, has announced the expansion of its second IBX data centre, TY2, in Tokyo. The growth in this market is a result of strong demand for data centre services from cloud and IT service providers, content companies and financial firms doing business in Japan.

The US$9 million, 140 cabinet equivalents expansion is scheduled for completion in Q4 2010 and will extend total capacity in Tokyo to 1,600 cabinet equivalents. Equinix operates two IBX data centres in Tokyo, TY1 and TY2 that are directly connected to each other by fibre.
