Garner Council gives green light to rumoured Fidelity data centre

Hushed about the identity of a prospective new business, Garner officials nevertheless have approved a developer’s request to move ahead with a 95,534sq ft commercial building on Waterfield Drive, - that will reportedly house a data centre for financial services firm Fidelity Investments - in Greenfield South Business Park.

For now, the town has declined to name the company, citing confidentiality agreements. Local officials, however, have acknowledged significant similarities between their project and the reports about Fidelity first identified in a Jan. 15 report in the Triangle Business Journal. The local business publication cited an unnamed source in reporting that the company was in final negotiations on a parcel of land in Garner for a large data centre. Fidelity says it wants to expand existing data centre operations but has not announced where they would do so.
