HCL inks US$200 million deal with Disney
HCL Technologies has signed an IT outsourcing contract with Walt Disney in a deal valued at over US$200 million (Rs 1,100 crore). The entertainment company chose HCL over IBM when the outsourcing deal came up for renewal recently, sources close to the development said. Disney had in 2005 contracted IBM to spearhead its IT infrastructure transformation in a seven year, US$730 million deal.
HCL declined to comment on the matter, saying it does not respond to speculation. Under the Disney deal, HCL will update technological infrastructure and update and support software for the US$41-billion company, including its theme parks and resorts businesses. HCL is strong in what is known as total IT outsourcing , where it undertakes both infrastructure services and application development and maintenance.
