In the US HP has announced the launch of their HP Thermal Mapping Service. Thermal Mapping enables a Data Centre client to see a 3 dimensional model of the air conditioning flows around a Data Centre. It is a patent pending application developed by HP Labs and is to be offered as part of HP's Thermal Assessment Services package. HP claim that it is possible to make up to a 45 per cent reduction in Data Centre heat via the use of a combination of its Thermal Zone Mapping and Dynamic Smart Cooling (DSC) which adjusts the air conditioning of the Data Centre and provides direct cooling where required on hot spots. DSC is a process based on real-time air temperature measurement from sensors which are placed directly on the IT racks. HP offers the DSC service in combination with its main partners which include Liebert and STULZ.
