HSBC hack to affect 24,000 customers
More than 24,000 HSBC customers are involved in the recent theft of private information from the bank's data centre, it has been revealed. Originally, the bank estimated that just ten of their Swiss account customers would be affected by the security breach.
However, the figure has now increased to 24,000 and although 9,000 of the accounts have now been closed, 15,000 are still open. Some IT experts have used the theft, which was carried out by a former IT employee of Swiss subsidiary HSBC Private Bank, to highlight the potential risks involved with securely storing information.
