IBM data centre underway

The town of Barrie in Ontario is finalizing the details on a new IBM data centre. The 100,000 sq ft complex is being built on Bayview Drive, north of the Barrie Molson Centre parking lot. Barrie envisioned higher-tech jobs on the east side of Highway 400, and an Ontario Municipal Board battle with Park Place developer in 2006 resulted in a plan that includes not just retail, but an office/industrial area.

IBM will be the third data centre in the city. The first was BMO – which anchors the Mapleview West Business Park – and a second, TD Canada Trust, is being built south of Mapleview Drive and west of Highway 400.
