Insigma and Wasu team up to build Chinese data centres
Insigma, a leading IT service company backed by Zhejiang University's comprehensive technological expertise, has teamed up with Wasu (Wasu Netcom Info Port Co., Ltd.), ne of the largest interactive TV/IPTV and 3G mobile TV operators in China, and other business partners to fund a joint venture, Zhejiang Huatong Cloud Data Technology Co., Ltd., to develop infrastructure and platforms for cloud computing in China.
Starting with Wasu's existing 5,000-m2 server farm, Zhejiang Huatong Cloud Data Technology Co., Ltd. plans to apply energy efficient technologies, such as the airtight liquid cooling cabinets featuring high wind throughput with small temperature differential, liquid cooling using constant low temperature water and energy efficient servers, to build and operate a total of 38,200-m2 of IDCs by 2015.
The centres include 8,000-m2 Zhuantang data centre at Xihu District of Hangzhou, 16,000-m2 Qiandaohu data centre at Chun'an County, 5,000-m2 Jiufeng data centre at Jinhua City, and 4,200-m2 Jinqiao data centre at Pudong New Area of Shanghai.
The joint venture will focus on the data centre business for China's broadcast & TV industry, which is not only the access point and bridgehead for the industry to connect to the internet, but also a bridge for the internet enterprises to enter the broadcast & TV business.
