Kearney aims to lure data centre

The Kearney City Council has approved a rezoning that the city hopes will make the difference in landing a data centre project that could cost US$1.2 billion.

The rezoning approved at Tuesday’s meeting added 53 acres to Kearney’s Tech One Crossing technology park, bringing the total to 165 acres. The state hopes its tax incentives, relatively low electrical rates, shovel-ready site, hardworking people and other factors will bring what is known as “Project Edge” to the south-central Nebraska city. Nebraska is competing with sites in Iowa and perhaps other states. The name of the company involved and other details have not been disclosed. The selection of the site is expected to be announced in June
