Macquarie Telecom has announced plans to open a A$60 million data centre in Macquarie Park. The power usage effectiveness rating of the Intellicentre 2 (IC2) is 1.3, which, according to the company, is nearly twice as energy efficient as the global average for data centres.

The Intellicentre 2 will be the first New South Wales data centre to have Tier III design certification from the Uptime Institute for 100% uptime, including during maintenance, the company said. The IC2 campus is located in Macquarie Park, nearby Sydney’s business districts. It will serve clients around Australia including anchor tenant News Limited., the company said. The data centre will launch the same month the carbon tax will come into effect, July 1.
