New Zealand: Revera plans twin data centre on Upper Hutt site

Revera has lit up its new Upper Hutt datacentre, at the same time announcing plans for a twin datacentre facility on a neighbouring 4000 sq m site. Last year, Revera was appointed a government infrastructure-as-a service panel provider.

The new tier 3 datacentre, at Upper Hutt’s Alexander Industrial Park, was built using a just-in-time methodology, which general manager Robin Cockayne says more than halved the commissioning times that it has taken for other builds. The 2500 sq m data centre was up and running in six and a half months. “Building a king-sized facility and asking people to come
simply doesn’t add up,” he says. “In the New Zealand market you couldn’t be less green or less efficient. Unused capacity wastes energy, and technology ages when the facility fills up slowly, isolating clients from new technologies and design improvements.”
