Pillar Data Systems has released statistics which suggest that the storage industry wasn’t able to meet the requirements of its customers last year, and is therefore now questioning whether any improvements have been made in the past 12 months. Information gathered by the company has revealed that against a background of rising costs, exploding data storage requirements and shrinking IT budgets, nearly all storage managers and IT directors (84%) were utilising less than half of their existing storage capacity this time last year.
Furthermore, the research raised concerns from respondents about utilisation in relation to power and space requirements. 73% said they were worried about the impact of infrastructure growth rates on power consumption whilst a further 66% expressed concern about available data centre space.
