Port of Morrow prepares to sell land for future data centre

The Port of Morrow is gunning for Oregon’s next big data centre. Port officials expect to finalize this week the terms of an agreement to sell 99 acres of port-owned land to a company called Boardman Acquisitions LLC, for the purpose of constructing a new data centre, said Lisa Mittelsdorf, director of economic development at the port. The sale also includes an option
for the company to purchase another 100 acres.

Mittelsdorf couldn’t confirm the identity of Boardman Acquisitions, but records indicate it is San Antonio-based company Rackspace Hosting. According to meeting minutes from a June 27 special commission meeting, the port commission approved a resolution to include Rackspace in the area’s Columbia River Enterprise Zone. The enterprise zone would provide the company property tax abatement on future property improvements for at least three years.
