Warren OKs tax break to lure GM projects
As car buyers look for incentives from automakers, Warren officials have offered an incentive to General Motors: Bring two projects and hundreds of jobs, and we’ll cut your taxes. City Council members voted unanimously late Tuesday to approve three tax breaks and a “brownfield” district that could lead to a fourth, if GM chooses Warren for a new data centre and production of new transmissions.
At the GM Technical Center, company executives are considering whether to renovate and expand the former Cadillac Building, near 13 Mile and Chicago roads, by 130,000 sq ft for the data centre that would become a global hub consolidating several existing IT laboratory and IT operations from across North America. Construction would begin this year, with some completed in late 2010, and a second phase finished in 2015, according to documents filed with the city.
