Washington state Senate OKs data centre tax exemption - Update
The state Senate has approved a temporary tax exemption for companies that want to build server farms in Washington. The measure now heads to the House for further consideration. The measure grants a sales and use tax exemption for eligible server equipment and power infrastructure at eligible computer data centres.
The centres must be located in a rural county, have at least 20,000 sq ft dedicated to housing servers. They also must have started construction between April 1, 2010 and July 1, 2011. The exemption ends on April 1, 2018.
