Worldwide Ethernet switch market grows 10.9% over previous quarter in Q32011

According to the IDC Worldwide Quarterly Enterprise Networks Tracker, the worldwide Ethernet switch market reached revenues of US$5.9bn in the third quarter of 2011, representing growth of 6.1% year over year and 10.9% quarter-over-quarter. The worldwide router market also grew 2.9% year over year in 3Q11. The final 3Q11 results show good Ethernet switch market performance in the Asia/Pacific region, which increased 27.8% year over year, now accounts for 25.8% of worldwide revenue.

IDC director Enterprise Communications Infrastructure Rohit Mehra said after a weaker than expected first half of 2011, the Ethernet switch market rebounded strongly this quarter largely on the basis of healthy demand in the Asia/Pacific region.
