Verizon Business has announced an improved mesh design for its Trans-Atlantic fibre routes between Europe and the US. The mesh design provides a total of six diverse fibre routes that are available for traffic re-routing in the event of a submarine cable failure. The mesh system should provide greater security than that available with a traditional ring architecture (used on most Trans-Atlantic cables) where there is a primary route and a back-up route loop. In the event of a failure on both the primary route and back-up route then both services can be lost.
