4th Power and Cooling for Data Centres
This year’s programme has as its theme using innovation to reduce cost and energy consumption, and increase efficiency in data centres. For one-day immerse yourself in an array of new solutions emerging to tackle the most critical issue in data centres today-cost.

Programme
09 00h   Opening
Catalina McGregor, Founder and UK GOV Deputy Champion Green ICT CIO/CTO Council, Office of HM Government CIO
09 15 - 09 30   "State of the Market"
Review of Power, Cooling and Location Based on Research Findings
Steve Wallage, Managing Director, BroadGroup Consulting
09 30 - 10 45   Power and Cooling Design: Innovation Deep Dive
Chair: Alex Rabbetts, Managing Director, Migration Solutions

A rack full of blades can drive densities to 30kw or higher. Typical datacenters can support much less (10kw or even lower). By designing for less dense systems we could support:
- lower power per system due to less restricted airflow
- lower cost per system
- higher operating temperatures
- resulting in more free cooling (ie more outside air cooling)

All of these deliver value to the end user. What are the tradeoffs and what is the most innovative design for low density?
Guest Speaker: Roy Zeighami, Principal Power & Cooling Architect, Hewlett Packard

Innovation in Containerization
The key concerns for any data centre are power availability and cooling reliability; how can containerized data centre design address niche market requirements successfully?
Rod Evans, Managing Director, SGI

Building Green into Data Centre Design
Design is confronted by the need to reflect continuing shifts in how buildings are configured. Data centres will be launched before the end of this year that are chiller less and cooling tower less with a significant reduction of air moving equipment. Green design requirements are also expected to intensify as pressure for carbon reduction becomes mandatory. What will data centre design look like in 5 years time?
John Berendzen, AIA, LEED AP, Fox Architects
10 45 - 11 10   Managing Power Consumption Efficiently and Effectively
Joe Polastre, Chief Technology Officer, Sentilla Corporation
11 10 - 11 40   Networking break
11 40 - 12 40   Green Innovators: will future proofing work?
A high level of concern exists about the future impact of green regulations on data centre facilities. In planning green initiatives how should the industry prepare – what innovations will offer the best medium term solutions?
