Jeremy Hartley, CEO, eCool Solutions
Jeremy Hartley is founder and Managing Director of Dataracks and its sister company eCool Solutions. Between them the two companies provide the burgeoning datacentre market with highly engineered server racks and structural solutions which reduce energy usage and increase efficiency. A qualified mechanical engineer with over 30 years in the datacentre industry, Jeremy’s success lies in seeing elegant and simple solutions to major industry problems. Dataracks was established in 1990 after market research revealed a need within the computer network industry for a specialist 19” rack cabinet. Jeremy prototyped various designs which he tested with end users and customer feedback has driven product development ever since. Dataracks has since become a leading manufacturer of 19-inch server racks and its innovative products – ranging from blanking panels and tile grommets through cabinets to complete cold aisles – can be retrofitted into a live environment. All its products are designed and manufactured in its UK factory and the latest products are designed to achieve the highest value ratings according to the latest EU guidelines on data centre efficiency. Over recent years Jeremy has become increasingly concerned about the escalating energy costs experienced by datacentre managers and was convinced that innovative design could solve the problem. He has developed a system of cold aisle containment and airflow management that can improve cooling efficiency and reduce energy consumption. To provide advice on Best Practice, he established Cool Solutions to provide consultancy on improved air flow management control in datacentres. Its clients have benefited from significant energy savings (at least 15%) and cuts in carbon emissions, as well as reducing server failures and downtime. Dataracks and eCool Solutions were among the first to become endorsers of the EU Code of Practice on Datacentre Efficiency. eCool’s recommendations and Dataracks’ equipment have helped many of the world’s leading datacentres to increase their energy efficiency and reduce their carbon dioxide emissions in line with government legislation. The companies are involved in several pan-European roll-out programmes. Jeremy is committed to energy conservation and continues to create innovative products for the datacentre industry. He looks forward to meeting like-minded individuals at Power & Cooling later this year.
