Verne Global, an innovative, UK-based developer of power conscious data centre campuses, has announced the availability of its colocation service from its 18-hectacre campus in Keflavik, Iceland. Verne Global's data centre campus is 100% carbon neutral, drawing commercial power from Iceland's dual-sourced renewable energy power grid and utilising Iceland's ambient temperatures to provide free cooling.

Expedient Communications, Cleveland's premier managed hosting provider and the region's largest data centre company has announced the completion of a power plant upgrade project at their original Garfield Heights data centre and the start of their expansion project to double the size of their 2nd data centre within the Cleveland area.

Euro Disney, which runs Disneyland Paris, has partnered with French energy company Dalkia to provide an innovative source of heat. As every computer user knows, the machines get hot and require fans to keep them from overheating. In large scale data centres, they're cooled by air conditioners. But those produces heat too, which Dalkia will collect and transmit to a nearly 6,500,000 sq ft heating network.

Microsoft has agreed to lease the water treatment plant attached to one of its United States data centres to the area's municipal council. The company said that the City of Quincy would pay an annual lease fee of $US10 for the plant with the option to buy it outright in 30 years. The lease means the city takes responsibility for the operation, maintenance and management of the plant.

Three new data centres are showing interest in setting up shop in Prineville, but city and county officials say they need 10 more megawatts of electricity to supply start-up power for the centres. The final phase of engineering to support the electrical systems for a 315,000-sq ft data centre facility on Chicago's Near South Side have been completed, developer JRM Technology has announced. Commonwealth Edison and the design-build team have finalized the engineering for the data centre’s power needs, moving the project forward after over thirty months of robust analyses and verifications, said James R. McHugh, JRM Technology's principal.
