EUROPEAN DATA CENTRES SET TO CROSS €3 BILLION REVENUE MARK BY 2009
This is one of the forecasts predicted by BroadGroup in its new report 'Data Centres Europe and Eastern Europe II'

London, 26 April 2007 – In its latest bi-annual survey of Data Centres in Europe and Eastern Europe, the consultancy BroadGroup forecasts that service revenues will more than double over the next five years, crossing the €3 billion mark by 2009.

The bi-annual study reviews the state of the data centre market in Europe, and provides forecasts for space and service revenues over the next five years. Based on interviews with more than 100 operators (representing a total in excess of 400 facilities) the report provides definitive insight into market drivers, player profiles and strategies, space, pricing, as well as the challenges being confronted. The report also documents market trends and the more pronounced engagement in the sector by telcos.

A detailed assessment of space and availability reveals the changing pattern of data centre evolution, the continued rise of managed services, and trends in location outside cities. The report suggests that Germany will form the largest data centre market over the next five years.

While enterprises continue to define the data centre story, emerging segments first identified in the 2005 report also reveal new growth opportunities. Covering an array of topics, the report comments on attitudes towards virtualisation and high density solutions, key challenges for data centres and those on the horizon, as well as the potential emergence of global energy benchmarks.

Service revenues across all 21 countries will cross the €3 billion mark by 2009.

“The report confirms much of the argument we have proposed over the past few years that data centres are a strategic asset as value migrates to the edge of the network,” commented Philip Low, founder of BroadGroup. “What the report reveals is how far European city markets are moving in response to the increase in demand, particularly from enterprises and government, and also new sources of opportunity for the future.”
