Impsat Acquisition Positions Global Crossing In Latin American Data Centre Market

IMPSAT FIBER NETWORKS has been acquired by Global Crossing and will now sell some 100 products from both companies in Latin America organised into different solution areas: IP, Data Transport, Security, Continuity, On Demand, Collaboration and Consulting services.

The company has 15 data centres and an IP global network. The Latin American enterprise market is seen to offer significant growth potential for IP communications and IP telephony is projected to grow in Latin America faster than in any other region, at nearly double the estimated pace of global growth.

In addition to expanding and enhancing its suite of products and services, the company has also announced that the Impsat brand will change to Global Crossing throughout the region. The transition will be introduced at local customer events through mid-August, which will formally present the new company identity and the company’s new solutions portfolio.

Global Crossing’s recent acquisitions of both Fibernet and Impsat have positioned it as a strong international player in the telecommunications global market. The company now has more than 5,000 employees throughout the world, and its IP network now connects more than 600 cities in 60 countries. STT Crossing Ltd, a subsidiary of Singapore Technologies Telemedia Pte Ltd, recently increased its equity and voting interests in Global Crossing to 66.2 percent.
