T-Systems Announce A Series Of Managed Services Contracts

Following on from our story in Decembers Data Centre News, T-Systems has announced a fresh series of managed services and outsourcing deals over the past month. They include the following:

- A network management contract for DHL’s 900 packet self service stations throughout Germany. Logistics company DHL currently has 900 self service package collection points throughout Germany where customers can leave packages for shipping. T-Systems has connected all package stations to a central Data Centre and service centre in Hanover and provides automatic e-mail and SMS notification to the customer when a package has been delivered.

- A 5-year contract for the IT operation of the European air traffic control database called EAD (European Aeronautical Information Services Database). T-Systems Austria is to provide the operations of IT systems and helpdesk for the project. T-Systems Vienna based Data Centre (called T-Centre) will be used as one of three Data Centres used.

- Extension of a contract to manage the mainframes of aircraft manufacturer Airbus until 2012 and will also project manage the relocation of the mainframes from Toulouse to Munich. At the same time the company will provide a volume based usage model to Airbus, where per unit costs will decline as more computing power is consumed. Airbus has also agreed that T-Systems will provide a technical IT support helpdesk in Beijing in order to assist its new manufacturing plant in China. The helpdesk will offer IT support in Mandarin, Cantonese and English languages.

- The completion of a major managed IP and LAN installation project for the German discount retail chain Lidl. Some 2,700 stores and 32 warehouses were connected with an IP WAN service within a 9 month period. The project also included the installation of a new LAN in each store.

- The extension of an existing contract to provide IT support to Munich-Allach based MTU Aero Engines. The deal includes server operation and workstation support and the provision of network infrastructure. T-Systems staff will be based on site at the client’s Munich office.
