VSNL To Launch Managed Services Targeting Multinational Companies

Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL) is preparing to provide managed services to Global customers, leveraging the global presence and network of its recently acquired companies including Tyco and Teleglobe. The company is reported to have said that it is implementing a comprehensive strategy aimed at addressing the managed services needs of global enterprises through its Global Delivery model and intends to start service delivery and operations from India.

The company is looking at delivery of managed services from its Global Delivery centre in Chennai, India and applications to be hosted initially across Data centres in Singapore, London and New York. VSNL has already deployed a large team of IT and application specialists, who will be working closely with other Tata group companies such as Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and CMC.

VSNL’s managed services will be mainly designed around four categories, managed network services, hosted services embedded in the network, managed hosted services independent of the network and customised Infrastructure solutions. The international managed services operations would be conducted through VSNL International, which has a global presence with operations in US.

VSNL will use the network and infrastructure it has acquired from the Tyco transaction in 2005 and will acquire from the Teleglobe transaction in early 2006. Teleglobe has presence in over 240 regions across the world and TGN has a 60,000 km optical fibre network spread across three continents. The new strategy is expected to contribute to a significant increase in revenues after extending its managed services to the international arena.

In a recent move, VSNL has been selected as the network administrator of the Singapore-France transcontinental cable Sea-Me-We4, and will host the network operating centre in Mumbai.
