    HP's Infrastructure Provisioning Service (IPS) and Application Provisioning Service (APS) have been designed to provide additional computing power to enterprises that do not want to deploy servers to handle temporary surges in demand. Utility computing is designed to enable customers to tap into a pool of computing resources hosted by a provider such as HP. HP's new services allow customers to send their data for processing in HP data centres in Paris and Houston.

The Xen project has delivered a new virtualisation feature targeted at enterprise infrastructure virtualisation needs, focusing on support for symmetric multi-processing (SMP), large server memory configurations and near-native performance, and offering for the first time an ability to virtualise all guest operating systems.
