IBM has announced it now has more than 2,000 storage virtualization customers, further extending its lead in the marketplace with the addition of ShopKo. ShopKo has completed implementation of a tiered storage infrastructure based on IBM disk and virtualization technology. The information on demand environment has reduced backup time for major applications by as much as 67 percent and improved overall application response time. The IBM virtualization solution is expected to provide ShopKo with nearly $2 million in additional savings over the next four years.
Mellanox Technologies Ltd is to collaborate with Novell to build an integrated solution that delivers Xen 3.0.2 virtualisation for data centres in conjunction with Mellanox's 20Gbps InfiniBand fabric solutions on top of Novell's SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 platform.
Neterion, Inc. a provider of 10 Gigabit Ethernet adapters for server and storage environments, has developed Hyperframe, an I/O Virtualisation (IOV) architecture that expands hardware support to input/output (I/O) devices, providing end-to-end virtualisation for the enterprise data centre infrastructure. Platforms that will benefit from this new technology span all elements of the data centre, from storage to servers, and will be of particular importance to blade server environments.
