NTT Com Asia has announced the launch of Global virtualisation service in Hong Kong. Leveraging on the global infrastructure of the parent company and its partnership with VMware, the new and expanded capabilities of its virtualisation service will provide customers with a one-stop solution to managing and monitoring their global operations efficiently.

The UK government's plan to put its IT infrastructure in the cloud is heavily reliant on the supplier community providing working examples and pilots. IT services firm Capgemini, which is running a pilot of a full potential G-cloud, has outlined to Computer Weekly how it might look from within.

Fujitsu has announced its Group Environmental Protection Program, Stage VI, which sets new goals for fiscal 2010 through fiscal 2012. As a stepping-stone towards achieving Green Policy 2020, the Group's medium-term environmental vision that extends through 2020, the new program sets forth specific goals in 18 areas from the vision's standpoints of benefiting customers and society, pursuing internal reforms, and preserving biodiversity.

Arista Networks have introduced the Arista 7500, a revolutionary switching platform for maximizing data centre performance, efficiency, and overall network reliability. The Arista 7500 is the highest performance and most power efficient 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) switching platform available. It was specifically designed to address the most demanding customer requirements for cloud computing, virtualization, and mission-critical data centres.

SunGard Financial Systems plans to consolidate its technology infrastructure into five data centres from 25 through a series of virtualisation initiatives. The vendor says its financial systems business is on track to achieve more than US$5 million in savings over the next five years as a result of the project, which kicked off in 2009.

IT services company Computacenter has built the first European implementation of the VBlock virtualised data centre in a box. VBlock is the complete virtualisation infrastructure arising from the Virtual Computing Environment coalition put together by Cisco, EMC and VMware. The concept behind VBlock is that organisations wishing to virtualise their data centres can opt for a pre-built data centre, rather than trying to integrate the components separately. The Computacenter development is a VBlock 2, being built on EMC's Symmetrix V-Max system.

Colocation provider CoreLink Data Centers has announced it is now providing cloud solutions provider Virtuon with colocation services. "Virtuon found CoreLink to be an ideal partner for our aggressive cloud computing rollout," says Forrest Blair, CEO of Virtuon. "CoreLink's business model, pricing, and responsiveness are the key elements that attracted us and are making it a win for both parties and ultimately our customers."

Virtuon offers a range of virtualization and cloud computing solutions including consulting, education and software development.

Before the recession, corporate green IT agendas were on target. When times got harder, green turned to red as cost cuts were made.
