  • NTL selects Radialpoint for security services

    Ntl has chosen Radialpoint, a supplier of managed services for internet service providers, to supply security services to its internet customers. NTL is to offer free desktop anti-virus services to all its customers under the product name of NTL Netguard. Updating itself every three hours, the NTL Netguard Anti-virus solution will automatically clean infected files. NTL Netguard will provide a free pop-up blocker, secure form filler application and a privacy manager. The launch date for these free services is expected to be in the third quarter of 2005.

  • Pipex profitable

    Pipex sales doubled to GBP78m, and acquisitions added a further GBP24m to turnover. Before goodwill amortisation and GBP1.7m of integration costs, Pipex made underlying pre-tax profits of GBP6.2m. The company has 192,000 broadband customers (around 20% from the business sector), 154,000 hosting customers, and 2,000 corporate customers using its network services. Gross margins rose by 3.9 per cent to 47.4 per cent, and the company turned cash-flow-positive.

  • Redbus increases turnover

    Redbus Interhouse plc increased its turnover IN 2004 by 17% to £16.0m with a 29% increase in the recurring income order book. This follows on from news that managed hosting specialist, Rackspace, has signed the company's 1000th customer contract. Having a 2.5Gbps network in the UK already, Rackspace currently has significant excess capacity and with 5% growth month on month, it is looking to increase the resilience and overall capacity of its network to 7.0Gbps to ensure it remains future-proof.

  • Internap 1Q results

    Internap Network Services Corporation has reported results for the quarter ended March 31, 2005. For the first quarter, revenues totalled US$37.9 million, an increase of 4.4% compared to the first quarter of 2004. Net loss for the first quarter was US$0.6 million, an improvement of approximately 80% compared to the same period in 2004. The Company's customer base grew to 1,984 customers, an increase of 55 net new customers in the quarter.

  • Equinix 1Q results

    Revenues were US$48.7 million for the 1Q representing a 32% increase over the same quarter last year and an 8% increase over the previous quarter. Recurring revenues, consisting of colocation, interconnection and managed services, were US$45.9 million, a 33% increase over the same quarter last year and an 8% increase over the previous quarter. 75 new customers to bring our customer count total to over 1,000. Looking ahead, revenues are expected to be in the range of US$209.0 to US$215.0 million for 2005.

  • Last Mile offers US-Canada rates

    Last Mile Connections (LMC), a New York based neutral telecommunications exchange, has announced that its Online Exchange has generated a price for international DS-1 Private Lines between the New York metropolitan area, the Toronto, Montreal, and Canada metropolitan areas that is more than a 50% reduction from current retail market prices for the same routes. The LMC Online Exchange is offering DS-1 Private Line service from the New York Metro area to the Toronto and Montreal Metro Areas for US $499 per month. LMC will provide this rate to all Exchange members for the next 90 days.

  • New data centre in UK

    Centrom, an information technology services and enterprise system integrator company, plans to join Aim this month in a flotation that will value it at GBP 8m. The company is raising GBP 2m to fund expansion and develop its own range of services, which include a 24-hour data centre. It also intends to make acquisitions both in the UK and abroad. Seymour Pierce is broker to the issue.

  • KPMG targets legal storage

    KPMG has launched a web-based data centre to help law firms manage large-scale litigation and arbitration. The new service offering is called Forensic Data Centre and will work as a tool for electronic disclosure. It is a direct competitor of Kroll Ontracks' recently launched Electronic Data Viewer.

  • Avnet launches manager services unit

    Avnet has launched a professional and managed services unit for SME businesses through its solution providers. Avnet Managed Technologies offers data-centre managed services, help-desk support and on-site services.

  • HP expands data storage

    Hewlett-Packard Co. is poised for the biggest-ever expansion of its data storage products and data services as it attempts to regain ground recently lost to rivals such as EMC Corp. and Dell Inc. in the US$63 billion global storage market. Nine revamped storage products are to be announced next week. HP's storage business has been regrouping, developing new products and increasing sales personnel. In light of new accounting and medical regulations, corporations are mandated to retain ever more data than ever, and must be able to access, manage and centralise the data far more simply.

  • Eastern Europe : Czech Asociace BIZ

    Members of the Czech Internet Solution Providers Association, Asociace.BIZ, reported a combined turnover of 363m Czech crowns (US$15.6m/12m) for 2004, up by some 20 pct year-on-year. Asociace.BIZ-members' revenue from providing Internet solutions was 245m crowns (USD$10.5m/8.1m) in 2004. The total annual turnover of Asociace.BIZ members has been rising since the association's establishment in 2002. Asociace.BIZ members registered an 18 pct year-on-year increase in their sales for 2002. The association's members' total turnover for 2003 rose by 19.2 pct year-on-year.

  • Outsourcing: data centre model supported

    The regional court of Caen, Calvados department, Basse-Normandie region, northern France, has suspended the transfer of the technical support activity planned by the IT outsourcing project of French distribution group Carrefour. The court has ruled that the project runs counter to the labour legislation related to activity transfer. The plans for database servers hosting has not been objected to. However, the transfer of 40 positions to a call centre in Morocco is being opposed.

  • Data Centres Europe event highlights industry regeneration

    The recent Data Centres Europe 2005 event revealed the extent to which the entire sector is regenerating across the region. Speakers from data centre operators, industry specialists and equipment suppliers all contributed to the highly rated event.   • Active 24 Norway

    Norwegian Internet-related services group Active 24, has signed a hosting contract with Norwegian directory publishing company Findexa. The contract covers a complete portfolio of hosting services. Under the contract, Active 24 will assist Findexa by producing and hosting new product offerings to Findexa's customers.

  • Sun gears up on Grid

    Sun has added products and services to its Sun Grid utility-computing offering. The company believes utility computing will enhance the speed of accessing, managing, and leveraging IT power. Sun also unveiled N1 System Manager, life-cycle-management software for deploying, monitoring, patching, and managing Sun servers based on Advanced Micro Devices Inc.'s 64-bit chips. The software lets customers manage multiple racks of Sun systems from a single console.

  • Teleunit teams with LEAD

    Teleunit Spa, a provider of fixed line telephony, wireless broadband, international calling cards, premium access numbers, content for mobile and wholesale services in Italy, announces that it has signed an agreement with LEAD IP Systems to provide feature-rich telephony lines to both business and residential customers throughout Italy. LEAD IP Systems is a developer and supplier of full turnkey Internet Protocol (IP) telephony and data security access systems for broadband service providers.

  • OnFiber new offering for Financial Services sector

    A new network offering designed specifically for companies in the financial services industry has been launched by OnFiber. The offering delivers high capacity solutions to support critical infrastructure for applications such as disaster recovery and business continuity. OnFiber designs, constructs, and operates unique metropolitan and wide-area networks.
